I want to be the man who does
indeed the will of God
abiding forever
and loving not the world
not attempting of God
and mammon
to amalgamate in vain.
For of all things that are
which two are more opposed
unmixable and at enmity
than these?
But perhaps the problem is
with us they blend too well
and with unsettling ease
compromise
conforming as one
becomes always the other
when in the heart of man
as master
both are served.

Very heart and thought provoking...you ask some hard questions...but I believe you know where the answer already lies...very well said Stephanos!

Stephen:  Your poems are always "meaty" and this is no exception. Excellent as usual!

Lot of thought in this one! Though sometimes it seems we serve "both," we can really only serve one. And if we're not really serving God, then what it is we're serving?

It is sooooooo easy to get caught up in the things of the world, not so easy to get back where we should be.

Great thinker of a poem Stephan!

You have written another very applicable poem to everyday Christian living.  Choose this day whom you will serve.... as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.  It is a choice that we make daily and I admit that the world has a great influence upon our lives.... but greater is He that is in us.  Amen.  Good job bringing some tough issues again to the forefront of Spirituals.  -Bob
