Manna?
Virginia Salter

manna in every nook and cranny
cupboard, pantry, freezer, fridge
manna of many flavors
textures, colors,
yet it all is as manna
to the Israelites,
millenia ago

why
......with stomach’s
......thunderous rumble
......in its gnaw
......from inside out
why
......does each prospect
......seem to offer
......tastelessness
......pallor
it surely must be me
whose tongue’s gone numb
no! it’s not that, it’s
narcissism
......to want what can’t be had
......to crave the forbidden
oh, you apple seeker
......turn
love the blessings you’re endowed

This is great!  I guess it's just human nature to always want something out of reach. When I was small, I always believed "manna" must taste like angel food cake.

This brought to mind many things.

I was talking with some Christian brothers the other night about how Manna could not be hoarded for more than a day or it would spoil... and what that means for us today.  Manna is God's sustenance for us through his word and by his Spirit.  Yet we must learn to put it to use it on a daily basis.  The tendency of Churches many times is to hoard what they've been given among themselves.  That's why such glorious teaching can sometimes "spoil" if we don't allow ourselves to be doers of the word, and share what we have with sinners in need.

Enjoyed this very much.

Stephen.

Very well said.. I heard a sermon lately about manna.. and I too was thinking about a poem.. that hasn't developed yet. Manna the living word of God..we need to devour daily..and be satified with the substance that it provides for us to live a life for God. He provides all we need our us to fullfill His purpose..yet we humans always seem to want the onions!
