Stumbling round dusty trunks
Of yellowed fiber once lovely
Many a dance and twirl in time
Now rotten and crumbling
Cob webs spiraling upwards
The lacework of forgotten space
A milky coated window measures
light across the powdery planks
Tools once held by masters
Crafters of the craft
Now they lie a lifeless death
In a corner of modern aftermath
Postcards from the outside
Boxed in dated fashion
Promises of worlds long gone
They pictured time's sweet passing
A tarnished brass trumpet
Stands witness to it all
Waiting for the supple lips
Of someone to call it's call
Books lay wasting round the room
Except for one on top
For all the trillogies and mysteries
It was free of dust
Thick and embossed leather bound
I wondered how it was spared
From the harbor of dusty memories
It's pages had some wear
Of course.. I should have known
As it was never a book of idle
As the light shown bout the room
I had found my Grandma's bible

What treasures we sometimes find, tucked away in dusty attics!

Attics were a wonderful place for memories.  I wonder why modern builders have dispensed with them.  I enjoyed your poem.  Joyce

You described the atic so very well that you've reminded me that I need to cleen out my garage.... the problem is whenever I begin cleaning, I always get bogged down in looking at all the memories as you have described.  My favorite treasure that I posses besides the Bible is my mother's wedding dress that I have managed to retain.  What makes it so special is that my mother died when I was two years old.  So many memories can be found in out attics.  Memories that are definitely worth hanging on to. Thank you,  Bob <><
