"Fulfill the Law of Christ"
Was the message for today.
The preacher quoted scripture
And then went on to say,
We should bear our neighbor's burdens
And try his soul to win;
Be concerned about the sinner,
Less attention to the sin.
There's a parable that Jesus told,
Found in the Book of Luke,
About the man from Jerusalem,
Robbed, beaten and forsook.
The priest and Levite passed him by
Without pity or a care.
Only the Samaritan stopped to help
When he saw him lying there.
He bound his wounds with oil and wine
And tended to his needs.
He fulfilled the law of Christ
With his neighborly good deeds.

You may care about the neighbor
Who lives next door to you.
But what about the stranger
Who needs some tending to?
Do you write him off as someone
Who brought troubles on himself?
Do you forget about this story
In the Bible on your shelf?
Everyone who lives on this earth
Is a neighbor unto you.
Seek him out when he has troubles
As Christ says we must do.
Don't tell him he must lie in it
Because he made his bed.
Rather, love him as a brother.
That is what our preacher said.

Joyce, very well done, flow is great save for one line, message is said with just enough difference from most that one finds it easy to understand and pay attention to, as well.

the line I thought you might want to look at is the one where it states:
...God tells us ...

I think the rhythm and flow asks for 'says' instead of 'tells us'  what do you think? That's absolutely the only place where I stumbled.

I do think we need to always seek discernment as to just how we can be the most helpful to our neighbor, too, though.  Feed a man a fish/teach a man to fish adage.

Joyce:  A really fine poem.  What a great world it would be if everyone lived by this law!

This is beautiful and right in all accounts. The usual attitude is "They like where they are or else they would change" I must say I am blessed with many true neighbors.I can only hope to be as good as they are. Wonderful message!
Sincerely,

It sounds as though your pastor had a good sermon and you listened well.   I like this, Joyce.

Yes, the Pastor's message was very good and the Poet's rendition was fantastic...
You really got the "who is our neighbor" message across very well through your poetry.  I agree with the above comments in ragards to the flow.  Just a real good poem.  Bob <><
