For My Name’s Sake

heap coals on my head
with words of spurn
as you watch for weaknesses
as you espy my failings
“See, you step in the same
as do I.
No better is your walk,”
you rail at me.

attempt to scar me
with your voice
or the deeds of your
hand
yet, you shall see
they do not penetrate
beyond what is the outer me

inside, resides
His joy
His promise
and you shall not
unseat it.

tears may flow
from the sorrow you flail
but by His love, His power,
those tears will cleanse
then soothe,
then heal of their salt,
the wound
of your striking

hope will reign
in Him
He shall not disappoint
He shall prevail
in me
through His unchanging promise
