Your small child breaks his new toy,
You go and buy another.
You do this several times because
You are his loving mother.

God has tried the self-same way
In his treatment of mankind.
He keeps replenishing the earth,
With wondrous things to find.

You lose all patience, after while,
And set your small child down.
You teach him to respect his things
If they are to stay around.

God's more loving than you are,
His patience longer still;
But even He'll grow weary of
Always having to refill.

I don't know how He'll do it,
Though He is so wise and good.
Will He let us just destroy ourselves,
As He did with the great flood?

Or like that earthly parent,
Will He finally have enough?
Will He say if you're to have it,
You must take care of your stuff?

God has given us these treasures.
Now we too must do our part;
To cherish and protect them,
Or break our loving Parent's heart.

So very true Joyce!! I do think in His own He corrects us. We just don't recognize it as that.

Great poem!

Dear Joyce:  Good treatment of a very critical point!  It is frightening to see what mankind is doing to the earth. I hope we don't destroy ourselves and I rather think God will not let us go that far before He steps in.

A wonderful message that can't be heard enough!

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

You have hit the points to ponder right on the nail. How far can we take it 2 da limit?

Very thought provoking poem. I myself get so very annoyed with people who litter the streets and highways and public places. We were meant to be caretakers of all God created. It is a job we all have to work together at.

Joyce,

I know for a fact that when my children dis-respect their mother... I step in to do or say something... Agreed, Father God has much-much more patience than I, but I do think there are "limits" as to how far man-kind can go on dis-respecting Mother Earth and Mother Nature......   Bob <><

This is so true, we do need to respect all that God has given us.  Well done!  Thanks for sharing!

We have broken our contract that states we shall care for the earth, its creatures and its people. Our actions have consequences, and we are seeeing the product of our seeds of indifference reported faithfully in newspapers from around the world. Great poem.
