There once was a cross I could see,
a most naked and desolate tree,
with no crucified form
weeping crimson and warm.
And I knew that this cross was for me.

Yet I needed no crux to display
in detachment, life’s popular way.
I so longed for a change,
and I know it sounds strange,
but I welcomed my own dying day.

You said you'd sequel me, not outdo me!
Hehe... seriously, great job, man!  I truly did enjoy these limericks.  It's kind of a neat change of tone, is it not?  Writing of something so serious, in an age-old format used for humour?
I think you did wonderfully.  Very well done!

Allan,

Isn't it the eternal duty of poet's to stretch (not trash) their father's forms?

I'm in total agreement with you...  A form traditionally used for lightsome and often off-color humor, used for such serious tone... who would've thought it could come off so well!  I think you and I may have started quite the new rage here.  Let's see who may follow.
