There's one thing that I ask each day,
Whenever I take time to pray.
I have a son I dearly love.
He is a blessing from above,
But for a reason I don't know
God didn't create him to grow
As other children usually can.
Although he is a handsome man,
His mind is like a boy of ten,
With flashes every now and then
Of someone older trying to
Emerge; unable to get through.
So many doctors dashed our hope.
We've learned to seize each day and cope.
He's happy, yes, but I can tell
He knows he's not the same, as well
As other people that he sees.
God hasn't acted on my pleas
And yet, I always feel him near.
That keeps me from distress and fear.
We dwell upon the happy things,
Yet something deep inside me clings
To hoping for a miracle,
That makes his life complete and full,
So someday he will feel the joys
We find in raising baby boys!

Betty~a child is always a joy, no matter what. I know you have realized that, just from reading this. God bless you and your son!

Thank you Elizabeth. We do find great joy in him. He is loved and cared for by everyone in our family and many friends. Perhaps his life is a reminder to all of us, how thankful we should be for what we have and he never will.

Betty, I understand how you feel. I lost my first child, Michelle, to severe birth defects and I too wanted that mircle. The miracle i got instead is that i now have six healthy children. Praise God! Love, Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Each day you truly experience unconditional love in it's deepest sense. You've had to search for the remotest silver lining through continuous storms. As I read your words, tears of both sorrow and joy dampened my cheeks. What an inspiration you are.
Thank you for this heartfelt piece.
God bless,
Rae

Betty you have brought tears to my eyes as well with this one.

For reasons unkown to us, things like this happen. The good you find, or the gathering of the family to all help out, is the blessing in it all. I know it has to be sorrowful not only from your son's standpoint, but from a parents as well.

But God did know He put your son in the best of care, with a family and parents who would love him no matter what. And that takes a special person.

God bless you all!!

Dear ellie: I'm so happy to hear that you now have a healthy family of six. They must be a wonderful blessing for you, especially after losing one.

Dear Rae: Thank you for your kind and understanding words. In spite of the heart-wrenching times we've gone through, I would not have missed, for anything, what our son has brought into our lives. I know our family is much closer because of him and he also brought us closer to God! He is a blessing to all of us.

Dear Whtdove: Thank you so much for your kindness. I know you can understand so much, because of what you went through with your daughter. I appreciate all that you say.
