A Quiet Reflection

Lord, the praise of self I won’t desire.
For the glory of your name is higher,
a so much better, nobler aim
than any ilk of earth born fame.
And though a false humility inside,
is best eschewed, a kinsman to pride,
if applause approaches me in any way,
if admiration’s hand should greet me in my day,
I’ll try and think to quickly turn it back
demurely slipping into shadows black,
that any lauding speech from men
may come to rest with you again.
