Dear God

As I take down the Christmas lights
Keep the light of your presence burning in my heart
As I put away the red and green candles
Renew your everlasting candle of love within me
Help it to burn the whole year through

Let your light shine from within me
As a beckon to show forth your love
Let that light burn constantly
Casting the light of your love

Lord I am just a candlestick
My duty is to stay burning
so with the oil of your word
I'll  strive to keep
My candle lite.

Your poem reminds me that God is Love and Light.  I too took down the lights this week and I did feel a since of loss when I did, but couldn't quite put my finger on the reason like you have done.  As the tree goes out the door, it seems a bit of Christmas spirit leaves along with it until the next year.  I do love the Christmas lights that so remind me of the Light of the world and His Love for us.  Christmas is by far to me the most wonderful time of the year.  God Bless You, Bob <><

Amen to that! May we keep HIS light burning within us all year. Very uplifting, and just what I needed this morning.

God's blessing to you!

When I took my christmas tree lights down, they were all tangled, so I felt more of a sense of frustration, LOL.  But seriously:

YOu've raised some good points here.  It reminds me a lot of when Jesus told us that we are the salt and light of the earth.  I think we need to keep up that "Christmas Spirit"(which in my opinion is just another word for the spirit of compassion)all year round, as Christians.  I recall something that my pastor once said:  Christians are the one group that has the most reason to celebrate all year round.  [NOT DIRECT QUOTE, BUT CONTAINS GENERAL GIST]
