There he sat, holding a box,
Ragged and somewhat torn,
It held his special treasures,
Since the day that he was born.
His little wings were drooping,
This cherub looked so sad,
He wanted to give a special gift,
But this box was all he had.
With tiny little fingers,
He held his favorite stone,
A rock he'd found while fishing,
Before he'd come back home.
Others had such lovely gifts,
For the Savior newly born,
One was sweetly drumming,
While another played a horn.
Some were giving gold and jewels,
They seemed so very glad,
But the tiny little polished stone,
Was all this wee one had.
A tear rolled down his rosy cheek,
His halo lost its glow,
His gift just seemed so meager,
He'd wished he could turn and go.
But, instead he went to the manger,
And placed his rock on the ground,
Soft light came to surround him,
As harps played a heavenly sound.
Soon older angels came to him,
And dried his little tears,
They told him how his gift of love,
Would be treasured through the years.
And his tiny halo glistened,
As a smile came to his face,
For on this blessed evening,
He was filled with loving grace.
And his dainty wings swayed gently,
As he rose up o'er the earth,
Lighting up the heavens,
On the night of our Savior's birth.

It isn't the gift itself that matters, it is the heart from which it is given and knowing the true reason for the celebration. You have given us a gift with this lovely piece.  Wonderful write and one to share with my children.  Thank you so much for this one.

This poem is wonderful, it reminds me of all those beautiful little things that children do in the name of love, but don't get noticed for their special gifts. It reminds me too that we have a Father in heaven that knows our hearts and he rewards our meager efforts no matter how small they may seem to others. This belongs in a book.. it is SO GOOD. Have a Merry Christmas.

Bonnie, dear friend, Exquisite is this wonderful poetic love poem of Christmas and the giving of our fondest treasures to our greatest treasure of all, Jesus! love, Ellie

Bonnie,

This was just precious.  It is always the thought that counts, not the gift itself.  That is merely a token of what lies within your hearts.  I loved this.
