Gone Home

He ran the race to the end, 89 years he lived
tired arms, always raised in praise
every breath, a word of love for God
kicked the devil in the knee, he did

Closed ears still heard the word
he saw an amen, and knew when to grin
his seat in the pew will be empty now
but only for a little while ...

Told how mama set a rock by a tree
one for each son, a reminder to pray
that each would be saved ...
he found his way, one sweet summer day

In a calm surrender he went home today
forever to run in meadows of green
walk streets of gold, and hear angels sing

Never forget ...
the rocks will cry out if you don't praise the Lord

Blooming Rose,
You have shared something so beautiful!! How could I think of tears with the peace you have brought to this piece? So sorry for your earthly loss, so thankful for the life he led and shared with someone like you to write about. Thank you so much for this one.
Love, Marcy

Sunshine... glad you like

Alle... This man was someone I watched every Sunday for several years. Though I did not know him very well, what an impact he made on most who heard him speak or observed his way of praise. I heard yesterday he went home. I can just see that grin...

Simply lovely piece Blooming.  What a wonderful tribute to this gentle man.  Isn't great to be able to picture his grin and know he is in true peace.  Thanks for sharing this.  Bonnie

Well, I guess we had better Praise the Lord then... Don't want to be outdone by no rocks.  What a lovely tribute to one of the elders in the church.  It is amazing how certain aspects of a person's life remain with us.  I am for certain as the angels rejoice as they have heard your poem, once again that grin will cross his face.  God Bless You, Bob <><
