This poem I wrote after reading the challege somewhere to include the idea or phrase "The fabric of romance" in a poem. It's not what you might expect, but I like it. Here goes...

--------------------------------------------------
Death of a Victim

The fabric of romance has worn too thin,
A veil to shield my eyes,
So I won't have to see what I know I must see,
So others won't see who I know I must be,
So I stay in my cage though I try to fly free,
So the past will not write a reprise.

Along with my veil of dramatic black,
Gloves I also wear
So I won't have to touch the hearts I must touch,
So I hide my hands though I know I cannot,
So I will hold back when I want to reach out,
So I pretend that I don't care.

At the funeral of a nameless someone
Whose faceless face I'm unable to see,
I cannot help but cry
But to wipe the tears from my eyes,
I must remove my black silk gloves
And draw back the veil over my eyes,
And in the light that follows the rebirth
Of the one I thought had died,
I can almost see what I could not see:
The ghost in the casket was I.

oh, Pears, Wonderfully written.

remove the fabric from your eyes
fold the past, put away your fears
you've started your entrance back
with a heart of love and gloves of tears

Your poem, so beautifully written, your heart reads just as beautiful.  Love, Marcy

Thanks so much, Alle'cram!  That was very kind and sweet of you!  Your stanza in response was awesome as well, I must say! =)

Pearls; this is outstandingly lovely and so beautifully written. Ellie

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.

Excellent response to the challenge!

Shows that sometimes, we use the fabric to hide what must be shown. . .

Superb poem my friend. . .

It is very distinguishing when the fabric (gloves and veil) are removed from our lives during the most crucial of funerals... Our Own.  Funerals have a way of causing one to look at their own lives.  A very honest and revealing poem you have shared.  God Bless You, Bob <><

Pearls~
This is a very moving piece.

'Along with my veil of dramatic black,
Gloves I also wear
So I won't have to touch the hearts I must touch,
So I hide my hands though I know I cannot,
So I will hold back when I want to reach out,
So I pretend that I don't care.'

Yes, it happens that often we retreat into
ourselves and therefore when we touch no one,
we are touched by no one.

You've done a splendid job with portraying
the awareness of reaching out to others
before it's too late to receive love from others.
