By the Fire...

We sat around the fire tonight
In the company of people who were more than a little
  rough around the edges
I spoke to you, knowing nothing would come of it,
But wanting to try anyway

You spoke to me silently,
In words never uttered
With your music and your voice surrounding me,
Touching a part of me that had been sleeping
It awoke to the sound of your laugh

I don't mean to sound like the people I despise
When I write these words down about you
I don't know what it is, but I felt it
I felt called back into my life and myself

There may be no resolution, no happy ending
But it doesn't have to be that way
I call still believe in your significance
In this summer of sorrow and tears

Perhaps it was a glimpse of the future you gave
Or a hope of a change in path
A spark that fed the flame
When I had needed so much to be rekindled

Perhaps it was the promise of things yet to come
Of people to meet, fall in love with
Places to go, a person to be
Perhaps it was just that I recognized you
Because you were a reflection of me

It was like
It was almost like
Almost
But then it was not

You are only a person, and probably as flawed as I
But there was within you a passion
And an optimism, a way of living life
That I had only dreamed existed but had never
Known as true

A visitor from another land, another time;
Just another passing ship in the night
Another person to waltz in and then out of my life,
Another fragment of all that has and will make me
Into the person I was born to be

It was like
It was
It was almost
It was almost perfect.

Dear Pearls; And what a first post it is! This is so enchanting, I was mesmerized form start to finish, and it flows so pefectly.I can only say that I welcome you here and can't wait to read more of your beautiful poems. Ellie

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.

Wow, ellie, thanks a lot! You're my first groupie! =) He he he... As soon as I get the chance, I'll be sure to read some of your poems, too (assuming you have posted some)! Since you've been on here longer, maybe you could explain something to me. On one of my first visits to the site, I clicked on the "Submit" icon and sent a poem that way. What's the difference between that and posting on the forum? I'm a little confused, so if you could help me out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks again!

WELCOME Pearls_Of_Wisdom!

Thank you for taking part in the challenge!
Always glad to see someone new
Lovely poem...I love these lines-

Perhaps it was a glimpse of the future you gave
Or a hope of a change in path
A spark that fed the flame
When I had needed so much to be rekindled

If you're speaking of the Main Site of Passions, when you submit your work through there, you are submitting it to the Main site.  There can be votes on those, but you don't get real time replies like here.

When you submit here in the forums, this is interactive. We can all interact immediately in the post. The Main site is part of Passions, but seperate from these forums. You can access the main site from here by clicking the words Passions in Poetry at the left top hand corner.

When you click submit here you post your poem for all to see, moments after you hit submit.  On the main site, it has to be read over, edited, updated, and then added to the pages. That takes a bit longer.

I hope this has answered your question.  ??

Please check your email for a special greeting!

Thanks, WhtDove, for the info and the compliments! I think I understand how things work now. And did I read something about not being able to post the same thing in more than one place? i.e. If I wanted to post (on the forum) the poem I submitted to the Passions Page, would I be allowed to do that? This site is so awesome, by the way!

Hi again!  What you submit on the main site is seperate from here. If you've posted a poem to the Main Site, you may post it here in the appropriate forum.

What we mean by not posting two is...
We ask that you not post the same poem in like Open and Spiritual. Or the same poem in any two active forums.  Once the forum is archived, take note at the very bottom of the index page, the archived forums like Open #1, 2, 3 and etc...
Those can recieve replies, but not have any new poems posted. Those are considered Archived, and things from those may be reposted.

Please if you have any more questions feel free to email me. You can do so by clicking the yellow envelope here in my reply, or by clicking the link you'll find under the advertisement, title WhtDove.

Anything at all I can help you with, please don't hesitate to give me an email!

Pearls let me begin by saying WELCOME TO PASSIONS!!! I trust you will love it here as we all do. Your poem is beautiful. You captured me right away with the first line....We sat around the fire tonight. I was hooked instantly. I also wanna thank you for your incredible reply to my poem, A Penny For Your Thoughts. I was very honored and deeply touched. I look forward to more of your work.

Thanks, juliet! And you're very welcome. My family enjoyed "A Penny for Your Thoughts" as well. =) If this website doesn't crash on me - as it seems to be doing since my computer is a piece of crap LOL - I will certainly post more in this forum. Has anyone read my other one, "The Image", in the Critical Analysis section? It didn't really get such a favourable response, but that's okay! To each his own, or something like that! Who needs critics, anyway? =)
