Best of friends while growing up,
Then for years we fell out of touch,
I didn't know those were the times,
That I needed You so much.
Always trying to be the strong one,
Giving comfort when all was lost,
I thought I could do it all by myself,
Not knowing how high the cost.
I put up walls of hardened steel,
And stayed locked behind the door,
Family and friends had not a clue
that I was aching like never before.
I was always smiling and laughing,
A happy face shown all around,
I'd never let them in to see,
The me who wore a frown.
Tears were out of the question,
If started they never would stop,
I had to dry their bitter tears,
How could I dare let mine drop?
But my shoulders, once broad, had narrowed,
They could bear no more of the weight,
And when I questioned the worth of this journey,
You came, and sealed my fate.
Your gentle arms embraced me,
Your warmth had softened my soul,
All of the years I'd ignored You,
Were forgotten, as You made me whole.
You sent angels to ease all the burdens,
Feathery wings were erasing the pain,
Their delicate light cleared my vision,
And I saw that You would remain.
A more humbled soul there has never been,
As I'd prayed like never before,
And You told me to live with a carefree heart,
That those burdens were mine no more.
Every step I have taken since then,
Your angels have walked at my side,
You have taken away the barriers,
And removed the need to hide.
It wasn't all that long ago,
That You filled me with Your light,
And I thank You Lord for letting me know,
That somehow You'll make it all right.

Bonnie, Some of these VERY thoughts I've had within the week! Now, in beautiful verse on my screen. What a terrific job you do with trite (commonplace) emotions. Yes! to this one.
Love,
Marcy

Dearest Bonnie; My heart can only echo yours in every single and blessed word you have wtitten. This is , also the story of my life and salvation. We are truly sisters in Christ. Love, ellie

I am so happy that you are no longer in hiding, that you have once again realized that you are one of us humans in need of compassion, and that you have acquired from the Lord such a carefree heart... This is reflected in you tender and gentle words of poetry.  God Bless You,  Bob <><

Bonnie once again you've written words that so many can relate to.

This is deeply touching, and beautifully written!

This was a wonderfully written poem! I really liked the end:

It wasn't all that long ago,
That You filled me with Your light,
And I thank You Lord for letting me know,
That somehow You'll make it all right.

Bonnie, Just wanted to stop back by and tell you that I sent this poem to my friend, who needs to know who her friends are now, (going through a hard time), she called me crying.  What a wonderful poem. Thank you for this poem. It made us both cry when we talked.  Love, Marcy
