Gently as the River Flows

Gently as the river flows
Softly as the willow blows
Surely as the starling knows
The way to fly in spring

Sweetly as the warblers sing
Warmly as a breeze in spring
Surely as a mountain spring
Gives waters pure and cold

Truly as the days of old
Sparkling as a grain of gold
The story will be surely told
Of how He came to me

Lightly as the falling leaves
Tenderly as baby breathes
The words of love that one believes
Are sung in grace and awe

It was a brilliant light I saw
One dark night as I recall
In the candle’s glow it all
Was softly shown to me

He came to me so tenderly
And held me up so lovingly
And gave me light so I could see
The truth my spirit knows

Gently as the river flows
Softly as the willow blows
Tenderly as touch of rose
He came to set me free

Oh, Liz, This is breathtakingly beautiful!
You are the one who amazes me, with your boundless faith and you endlessly glorious gift for writing poetry! Love, Ellie
P.S. Thank you for your loving words of praise for my poem.

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.

Isn't that just perfect, two posts within a minute saying it's beautiful.  And I didn't even read the other one.  See, it must be true!

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments on this poem. I was so happy someone recognized the rhyme scheme, which is AAAB,BBBC,CCCD,DDDE, etc.
Just a little challenge this morning.
You remarks are very much appreciated
Thanks
Liz

Yes, I like the rhyme scheme... but more than that, I love the way you describe the way He comes to you and sets you free as being so soft and gentle.  That is just how the Spirit of God is...  Lovely.  Bob <><

Liz, this is wonderful! You describe the wonder of the Lord's salvation perfectly! I also love the rhyming scheme. Another great piece from one of the greatest poets here.

Liz, this is remarkable! The way it's written reminds me of a song. Can't place the song, but this sure does sing like one!
Your work is nothing less than spectacular!
