Everyday god talks through bards and prophets
and we say we believe, then doubt it.
"Show us a miracle," said they,
to the one called god's son;
whilst they stood amidst the
glories of the stars, the moon, the
noonday sun.

Give us the fantastic, the psychedelic, the dramatic.
Adorn our minds with the plastic of fleeting magic,
but keep us blind, always blind,
to the terror of our attraction
for thee;
give us bondage, make us drunk with illusions,
but never demand
that we be free.

Come to us sometime in the distance future,
from someplace in the galactic
never, never, never in the present-
'cause we'll crucify and disdain ya!

Remain upon the pages of our holy books;
upon our stained glass windows
and in our gothic imaginations,
but stay the hell away from us in every real way
in every successive generation.

And the bards cry and the prophets wail
in mournful tones of sackcloth and ashes
they've cried out to no avail/
while truth is exchanged for the bondage of confusion,
betrayed for filthy lucre, piled up in banks and financial
institutions.

The creator walks in dirty rags
upon our busy streets,
no place to stay, nothing to eat,
blistered and weary feet.

In god we trust!
but if you're broke,
hungry and destitute,
stay the hell away from us!

Got dressed this morning and went to church,
genuflected before the cross of my desires/
and like priests of old
kindled myself one more unholy fire.

Or maybe caught what I thought was the spirit,
and spoke in what I believe to be tongues,
then believed it/
then secretly loved me and clandestinely hated you.

I'm so self righteously blind there's no way I could see.

And the bards cry and the prophets wail-
in tones of sackcloth and ashes
they've cried out to no avail.
Everyday we say we believe
then ourselves deceive,
that god lives in the sky
and is coming back someday
to make everybody feel high.

Whilst god walks amongst us and talks amongst us
and we look for god in every direction but within us!

And the bards cry and the prophets wail
in tones of sackcloth and ashes they've
cried to no avail-
and their voices
yes their voices
float upon the passing wind
upon the passing wind
yes the passing wind
upon the--
passing, passing, passing wind.

Wow! This is a powerful message and sadly, very true. You have expressed what we all need to hear and usually don't want to.
"we look for God in every direction but within"! This is the key, right in these words, the absolute key! Wonderful poem!

calling them to join
the dance

I agree with Ellie here! This is very powerful and it says a whole lot! That one line also stuck with me! It really stands out! We do look in every direction but within.  This was excellent, and said in a bold manner! My kind of style!

Ellie & Whtdove.  You've both hit the nail on its head.  That line is what the whole poem is all about.  If God lives within us and we recognize it, we will walk with the knowledge that we are always in HIS presence, which we are anyway.  Then everything else will fall into place.  The thought is actually frightening, for who can live up to this lofty calling?  Praise God we have Messiah, through whose intercession this is possible.  Thanks for reading and commenting.

Fantastic!  This is a great rendering for the book, but I see you haven't offered it as such.  It's a keeper for me, for sure.  Thank you so much

Listen, I hear the cry of God's bard floating upon the passing wind of His Spirit... But can I have ears to listen?  Yes...This flesh is so very hard to overcome. Bob <><

YeshuJah,
It is very easy to relegate Jesus to the past, to the future-to ornamentation, etc. but we truly need to enshrine the Living Present LORD in our heart and lives. I find your poem an outstanding cry of indictment because we by and large fail in such an important endeavor.  God Bless you, David

Ouch!!! That hurts!  But alas how true.  "Let a righteous man rebuke me.  It will be like (anointing) oil that is poured upon the head."
One title of God that always made me think is when he said "I am he who was and who is and who is to come".  How carelessly christendom and religion have relegated him to the past or the future but stumble again and again at the one who said to Moses "I AM that I AM".  Your voice truly rings with the prophetic.  I am only glad that God delights in mercy and may still visit us as he did Zacharias in the service of the temple where as an echo of Ezekiel the "glory had departed".  How cold and calculated formalism had relplaced the burning prophetic voice of the Lord!  Perhaps the passing wind will "blow where it listeth" and be for us as mighty and rushing as when faith was burning in the upper room of our Fathers.  At last, though we are unworthy of his kingdom and though "we are all as an unclean thing . . . and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquites like the wind have taken us away" let him prophesy to the wind as Ezekiel did unto a valley of dry bones and give us the breath of Spiritual life again.  I long to walk with him in the cool of the day.

I look forward to more of your verse.

Perhaps you could look at a poem I have posted called "Psalm of Promised Glory".  It has kindred themes with your poem.  It is dense and meditative in style, lengthy, and perhaps a bit much for a casual reading.  However I posted it nonetheless because it is what was inside and also because your work kindled a response from me.  Thanks!

Sandgrain.  Could you tell me a little bit about this 'Book.'  I have no insight on it.  Thank you for
reading and commenting on this.

Bob, 'let he who hath ears to hear' is as real today as when it was pronounced.  Thank for reading
and commenting.

deleeme.  You are sooooooooooo right.  I have a feeling that the apperance of God's kingdom
will again evade the jaundiced eye of established religious thought and its adherents just as it has in
past.  This, I believe, will be as a direct result of relegating  God to past or futere.  Thanks for your comments, they are enlightening.

Stephanos, your response warmed my heart.  But I have to tell you:  I cannot by any means bear the name righteous.  I am way up in the echelon of chief of sinners.  No one but God and I know how true that is.  I am just compelled to say these things.  They are true in spite of and in disregard
to my person.  God is no respector of persons.
You made a host of valuable points, especially the fact that God spoke of himself as IAM.  I believe that it is convenient for us to put God in the past or future because it gives us a false sense of being able to live how we choose to in his supposed absence.

Thanks to all.  Your comments have blessed me on this board.

Wow this was great. So many things were going through my mind as I read it. What an awesome, mighty God we serve and thank goodness there's nothing religious about Him. And let us be ever mindful to see Him in all the beauty around us and in each of His children. In His service, Juls
