Lesson of Life

"Come, sit with me." The old man said.
I want to teach you of life.

Slowly moving I walked to his side,
I could hear his raspy breathing.
It made me shiver--I cried.

Tenderly he lifted his hand to my face.
"My child, don't be scared,
God's given me beauty, and grace."

Where was this beauty?
My eyes could not see.
For his face was all ravaged,
with shadows of death and disease.

With a glimmer in his eye,
he spoke with great joy.
"Don't worry small one,
my beauty comes from the Lord."

God doesn't see the face that you see.
He sees my heart.
He sees the real me.

Standing there gazing upon this man's face.
The fear I once had,
was quickly replaced.

When my time has come,
the lesson of life to impart.
Look not on my face,
but look in my heart.

Dolly (sister of Forrest & Eldridge)

Hey sister abeautiful poem well thought out and written with strong emotional appeal.
Check out verse 4
for his face was ravished
by death and disease
you may want to say instead of death
near death unless of course he's
a ghost and if that's the case quit scaring me. I probablly won't sleep tonight now.
very good first poem.

Dolly: Welcome! You have certainly made a grand entrance with this endearing poem of what love is all about. I love the line, "He sees the real me". How wonderful that God appreciates the beauty inside of us! You have written a beautiful poem. Ellie

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.

Dolly if you have to edit a poem i. e.
you misspelled a word or want to change a word you can edit it within a 24 hour period.
at the bottom or top of your poem you`ll
see a littli pad with a pencil on it click on it and you can make your changes.
I posted one last night on critical forum about dialysis. Looks like i'm not the only one who liked your poem.

Thank-you Bonnie and Ellie for your kind words. Sometimes people tend to forget that God loves us no matter what. We, as a society tend to look at the vessel, and not what's contained within. It's human nature for us to want to be attractive, but I learned as a child that true beauty is found in the heart. For many years I worked in Christian education. If I didn't teach my students anything else other than to love and accept others for who they are, and to always look at everyone through God's eyes, then my work there was completed. Of course I hope I did teach them to spell better than Forrest. Speaking of Forrest--Here you are trying to tell me how to edit and that's the very first poem I've ever written in my life......LOL....I'm gonna pretend he was a ghost and leave it alone  . Love ya Forrest!! Thanks again Bonnie and Ellie.

I got to worrying about Forrest not being able to sleep at night and decided that the old man couldn't be a ghost. I edited my poem   Now he's just a shadow of death and disease.

Welcome pasqually!

If this is the first poem you've ever written, then I applaud you much! This is fantastic, and serves as a great reminder to all, that God doesn't measure a man (no gender intended), by what's on the outside, but what's on the inside.

I hope we get to see many more from you! I hope you find a warm home within our circle of friends!

Please check your email for a special greeting!
P.S. If you ever need to edit something, and don't get to it within the 24 hours, just let one of us Moderators know, and we'll happy to edit it for you

What a wonderful welcome!! Thanks so much WhtDove. I've been reading the posts here for some time now, but never wrote anything. When I read where Forrest thought my sister and I should give it a try I thought, "why not?"  Now I'm really happy I did. Thanks for the wonderful words, and for the greeting card!!

WELCOME!  Pasqually

Though I have met Forrest and EJ in CA, I like to post in this section of Passions as well. I hope to read more of your work in the future...  a very-very nice first entry.  True, how discustingly visual we have become in that we cannot hear the hearts of a ravaged world crying out for our love and attention.  Bob <><

Dolly what a beautiful poem. I loved it especially where the dead guy scares Forrest.

Oh you changed it. Well I still love it.
You have a knack for expressing your emotions. Keep it up. You may have found a new hobby.

Beverly and Laura liked the poem. Shadow didn't appear to care one way or another.

Love ya, EJ a.k.a. James a.k.a. Eddie

Welcome to passions!  For your first poem, this is exceptionally well written with a beautiful message that everyone should read here at passions.  Thanks for reminding me about God's love regardless of physical appearance.

Take care,

Excellent revision I knew helping me pass newspapers (sorry about the rat that jumped off the porch and scared you, he got me the day before.)That's why I sent you to that house. You were almost 5 I figured time to experience the realities of life.

Your piece is so beautifully written and packed with truthful wisdom.  As I get closer to that description on the outside myself, I keep praying my heart holds some beauty.   Welcome to passions and let us see more.

Thanks for your welcome Bob. Yes, it's true we've become disgustingly visual and no longer hear the crying hearts of our ravaged world, but if just the few handful here strives to make an honest effort to touch just one life, and the life we touch should touch another--WE could, can and will make a difference. Thanks again Bob--

Eldridge, I'm sorry Shadow didn't like my poem, but I just couldn't seem to fit cat chasing and shoe chewing in there at all.

Forrest, it's because of you and Eldridge that I'm virutally afraid of almost nothing. I do think the time you scared me so bad I tinkled down my leg was worse than the house with the rats.

Thanks to you Honeybee for the warm welcome, and isn't it wonderful God loves us no matter what? Boy, He has to be a good God to love Eldridge and Forrest since they're so darn ugly.    Just kidding!!

Thanks to you eterniT98, glad you liked it.

Last, but certainly not least thanks to you Sandgrain. Somehow I feel quite sure you have a heart of rare and great beauty.
