Open

If I go, I leave you one less friend
But I can not stay around you, if it has to end
A middle ground I can not see
Should I look out for you?
Or should I look out for me?

I was happy before I met you
I was myself, and knew how I should be
But then you gave your friendship
A commodity still rare
I’ve tried to purchase more of it
And it leaves me in despair

You opened up my broken past
And showed me I still hurt
I see I’m just a can of worms
With slightly cleaner dirt

You touched my every hidden sin
And brought them out to light
Hmm… that makes me thankful
I now know what to fight

I’m sorry for the pain I’ve caused
The spots I’ve put you in
We need to set the boundaries
So I’m clear about what’s in

Thank you for your patience
I will be back again
I’ll take your hand in friendship
With the pace set on mend

Doug, Sometimes we all get lost when boundries are not defined, but know it starts when we are born. Until were taught where not to go our spirit will take us there. Sounds like you have the right idea though, by stepping back and analyzing the situation for the best of both sides. I enjoyed your poem thanks for sharing it here.

Sometimes friends just need to sit down and talk things through...  but, when we can't talk to out earthly friends their is always a friend above who listens.

Hello Doug,
I enjoyed your poem and it has special meaning to me - "can of worms with slightly cleaner dirt"  brilliant!
describes a recent past experience and my desire to keep a good friend, if possible.  I am also looking out for more of your works.   Michele Antoinette.

Welcome to Spiritual Doug: This poem is terrific and I hear your quandry. Communication is the key and lots of prayer.
Looking forward to seeing more of your poetry here. Ellie

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.
