Remember when I wanted shoes,
How you'd always buy them for me,
Or when you tried to braid my hair,
How you chose to give me three?
Remember teaching me how to swim,
By tossing me out of the boat,
Mom stood watching from the shore,
So afraid that I wouldn't float.
How about showing me how to drive,
Those mailboxes should've stayed put,
Instead they jumped right out at me,
After that, where I went, was on foot.
Remember the years at the lake,
All the picnics, the family, the fun,
All the precious memories,
Of those lazy days in the sun.
Remember when the angels came,
That rainy New Year's Eve?
You got your wings that evening,
And we were left to grieve.
God wanted your struggles over,
He wanted you to come home,
He wanted you with Mom again,
Through the heavenly fields to roam.
That was Nineteen Ninety,
Now, a new century,
Missing you, but knowing,
With those wings you're now flying free.
And just in case you can hear me,
I'm grateful for all that we had,
I'll send a soft kiss for your cheek,
And say Happy Father's Day, Dad.

This is a lovely poem of tribute and happy memeories, Bonnie--what a wonderful verbal collage of a precious parent and the happy moments spent together in special & touching ways.  Thanks for sharing them--I can see me standing in the shadows-enjoying your wonderful interactions with your dad!

Bonnie this is so profoundly touching you brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. I'm sure he hears you and smiles, as he looks down and see's just how beautiful you turned out!  What a loving tribute from a loving heart.

Bonnie, You made me smile and you made me cry. A beautiful tribute to your Dad & Mom. I often wonder if they know what's going on with us as they are in heavenly bliss. I so enjoyed this poem. Just beautiful. Marcy

Dearest Bonnie; How blessed you are to have parents who cherish you so. Now I know the secret as to why you are on of the loveliest people I know. Your warm and gentle spirit shine through every word you write.
Love, Ellie
