The first Sunday
Of my life
I was in church
In my mother's arms

As I grew from infancy
Into childhood
I learned to talk to God
I sang praise to him
I always went to his house
On Sunday

I learned that God
Made the world
He made me too
He wanted me to enjoy it
And that is what
I planned to do.

I was thrilled
With all he created
I saw the wonders of it all
I felt life was wonderful
So wonderful,
I planned to live forever
I had no idea people died
That reality came to me
As a great surprise.

So I had to ask the question
Why does this have to be?
Mom showed me in the Bible
How sin brought death
Not what God's perfect intentions
Were ever meant to be.

Then I learned that
Despite the cruel reality
God's plan was not defeated
He still had the victory
For the eternal life
That Satan stole
From you and me
God had redeemed
By sending his own son
To die upon a cruel cross
So we might live eternally

So when I heard
That God had provided
The opportunity
For me to live forever
And that it was simple
Very easy thing to do
I knelt down beside my bed
Confessing to God
I was a sinner
Asking for his forgiveness
He touched my childlike faith
Hugging my inner being
Confirming
I was his child

Some year later
On the verge of death
My mother watched
Me sing Hallelujah
With the angels
As she knelt
Beside my bed
Praying
Holding me in her heart
While God was
Holding me in his hand

On that night
God chose to leave me here
But someday I will walk
Into the eternal realms
Of endless light
Born again into a brand new world
Eager to see
The wonders of what that
Creation holds
Walking on streets of gold
Singing with the Hallelujah band!

This is a beautiful account of a God instructed & influenced life through parental involvement. Sadly to say may are just not blessed with Godly, caring parents and must find and come to the truth on their own.  Thank God for all the blessing of others to touch our lives and give then Godly focus & directrions.  David

Hello, dear friend; How magnificent is this poem! You were a blessed child to have such a beautiful mother. I love the way this poem just flows like a restful stream. Ellie

Thanks for all the nice comments. It is true that the best favor a parent can do for their child is to introduce them to Jesus, as parents are never perfect, never know all our needs but Jesus does and he never leaves, and his love is unconditional. As I get older I am more thankful, for the most inportant thing my parents did for me was to take me to church and gave me a faith in a God that cared.

Septsong, you've shared a truly amazing piece with us! God certainly has plans for you, as it was not your time to go.

I agree also that the best thing parents can do is to teach of God's love.
Hence the saying, train up a child in the way he should go (God's way) and he shall not depart from it!

God does have a sense humor. Just take a look at the platypus!
