Valley of Death

I have been to the valley
called the shadow of death
and dug my own grave.
At the lowest spot
digging lower still
buried in that desolate valley.

The valley of death
where the Devil does rule
and demons dance and play.
It’s an evil place
filled with all that is vile
teeming with worms of decay.

Looking up from the valley
hills of life hidden
by the fog of reality lies.
What seems only real
is the pain one feels
with feet mired in clay.

Digging my grave
in the deep of despair
now I lay me down.
Seems no way out
inevitable embraced
peeking up, out of my hole.

The whispers begin
a voice of friend
seems they are getting louder.
From the hill far away
through the fog and decay
piercing light as from a tower.

Prayer breaking through
glimpsed circle of love
feelings drawing me closer.
Pulled nearly apart
as war is fought
then standing afar, seeing clearly.

I have been to the valley
of the shadow of death
and now it may not hurt me.
I have been in my grave
and awakened this day
sweet Voice of Jesus has saved me.

Now; you know my tale
of evil and deception,
don’t you lie down to die.
It’s a farce, my friend
a lie with no end
awaken, we show you the way.

As usual brother dear, this is heavy!! I like it..a lot! I love the part where the whispers begin and the winning of the war. I can't stand that valley and lots of times I get stuck there. Very good!!!

It's real hard to forget what that dark place feels like and I'm so thankful that it's been years since the Lord brought me out of there, and i'll never stop being grateful. You poem is beautifully written and so realistic. Ellie

I've been to that valley also, and I don't like it much. Thank God that prayer always seems to break through!

Great work

It is beautiful to witness as it were a ressurection in this poem and the kindly and heartfelt interactions of family and their tender ties.  The valley of death looms for us all in this life in the lowly valley experiences we all have at some point-- but as the Psalmist says in Psalms 23, "Yea though I walk through the valley of death I will fear none evil, for Thou art with me."
That is, I believe the key to surviving & overcoming our Valley ordeals.  Thanks for the thought provoking poem Dan,

thank you all for the comments and support.
Seems we all have been on "holiday" in the
valley at times...it's so important to know
that our circle of love is praying for us.
And possibly even more important...being that
beacon of Light for others still in the valley...selah

Dear Bleeding

Beautiful and touching.  Continue to walk in His way and hold on to Him, for He will never fail to lift you up!
