Threshold

My son, oh my beloved son
how my heart breaks for you.
Hearing your anguish from long distance
knowing the demons you now face.

In the immortal words of Solomon
there is “nothing new under the sun.”
That which you face on the eve of manhood
endless fathers before have faced.

My son, do not let the darkness prevail
listen to that still, small voice.
When you awaken as if from a dream
from within the Voice of God is speaking.

Many have attempted to describe, explain
books and movies portray it as “the Force.”
In the reality that dispels all shadow
it is the essence of life, your Creator.

You once knew the joy of His presence
remember my son, hold true and hold fast.
The One that breathed life into your bones
He will never leave you, nor forsake you.

It is His Love that flesh tries to copy
and it is that Love that shall preserve you.
Cultivate the sound of His still, small Voice
when darkness comes, let His Voice save you.

In this world exists great evil, my son
things that shrink man’s compassion.
As we both know; my son, evil is real
please, I beg you, do not join that evil.

Do not let the ugliness that happens
motivate or direct your thoughts.
That path leads to death and destruction
instead my son, dwell on the things of beauty.

Dwell on the things God calls fruit
love, joy, peace, goodness, kindness among them.
These things will build you up, improve you
call on Him and He will testify this is true.

Son, you do not have to sit in a pew
you do not have to kneel with folded hands.
You do not have to follow procedure or ritual
just simply speak to Father like He is a friend.

Most importantly, my beloved son
believe, know in your knower, absolutely...
You are loved, my son
you are loved with a love that knows no bounds.

You know of my love for you
that I would gladly sacrifice myself for you.
Know this my son,
as surely as all generations before
your Father in Heaven gave His Son just for you.

Yes my son, He loves you that much
it is a love more real than real.
The Words of His Book are not dead
believe and no power of darkness may stand.

Make that decision to walk in His light
take a stand for the beauty of life.
Dedicate yourself to the promotion of real love
be strong my son, be loved, be blessed.

Finally my son, remember these words
as they were passed to me, pass them to yours.
Never forget the hope of our faith, the strength
look to God for answers,
He loves you even more than I.

for my son, Andrew
on the threshold of manhood.

Wow Dan... this is an excellent post!! I know what you mean....Levi just moved out a month ago. He's in for a real eye openin' heart break if he doesn't take care of the spiritual side of things. I hope he doesn't have to learn the hard way. Give our love to Andrew...love you...Sis

I have no words to describe how powerful this was. How much it said and with so much love!  You've said it all, and mine shall be reaching this very state not too long away now.

I give you much applause, you've written a very touching, loving poem!
I love it, you need not bend down on your knees or fold your hands, or sit in a church pew, just talk to God as your friend!
How very very true those words are!
God bless you!

I am deeply touched and appreciative
of the comments and support this piece
has received.  Bless you each and all.
I had a sense of immortality when taking
this dictation...I sense that it will be
an important document passed down generation
to generation in our family.  I give God
all the glory, honor and praise for this
message in the name above all names,
JESUS. amen? Selah?

Bleeding,
I have no children nor the awesome responsibilites of being a parent, but a believer, and minister of the gospel--I have the utmost admiration for you in the depeth of your convictions and the deep and devoted counsel which you seek to instill on that yet impressionable mind.  The first 8 chapters or so of Proverbs are especially pertaining to the same--which might also be of benefit to young Andrew and all young people  to flee the youthful lusts which war against the soul, but rather fight the good fight of faith and lay hold on eternal life.
God bless you and your Son,  David

Dan,
Have I told you lately how much I appreciate you and your many prayers for me?
This is one of your most beautiful, heartfelt pieces that I have read. What a treasure to hold throughout generations. What
a blessing you are, with Jesus as your guide.
Keep 'em coming. marcy
