I need to go to the garden,
Or out to that hidden glade,
I need to drink in the beauty
Of these wonders that You have made.
Dark walls of brick surround me,
In shadows, and with doubt,
Seems lately each time I open my mouth,
I bring only anger about.
Lord, I don't think that I can do this again,
No talking, no laughter, no sun,
I don't want to take a few steps back,
On this journey that I've just begun.
I've tried for weeks to be patient,
I've weighed every word I have said,
But in sharing a different opinion,
Seems I went where I shouldn't tread.
Lord, I don't want to apologize,
I did nothing to feel sorry for,
Yet already the silence is setting in,
And again I'm behind that closed door.
So I guess I'll head out to that garden,
Hope some peace is there waiting for me,
And I'll pray that You will be there,
To show me what I need to see.
As I look at the sweet violas,
And see the hollyhocks now growing tall,
As the lilies are reaching upward,
Will morning glories soon cover that wall?
Will the bricks will be covered with beauty,
And let the light of Your love shine through?
Will You grace me with Your wisdom Lord,
As You show me what I must do?
I know I can't make any progress,
Going back three steps every day,
But I need a gentle push forward,
So I can continue on my way.
Please don't let me get mired down,
Help me to move ahead as I must,
I'll try to hold on to what I have found,
As I look once again for that trust.

Dear Bonnie; I hear you friend. A little backsliding is sometimes necessary to maybe appreciate what He has done for us and increase the longing for more of His healing, forgiveness and peace. You know Who to turn to when this happens, That's all that counts. Love and prayers, Ellie

Thank you Bonnie, I needed this one--I get so irritated, and agitated lately by the insensitivities of others, I'm afraid I often take steps backwards-instead overcoming. I identify & appreciate this one,

BSC, I loved the meekness and humility in your prayer to God. This is my desire too, except I could never put these words to paper and say as much as you. Just beautiful!
On the lighter side, perhaps your not taking steps backwards, maybe just standing still, sometimes we have to do this, just listening for His will. Loved this poem.  Marcy

Very Good Bonnie!
If only all of us could get that humble and honest. I think King David had the same shadows of doubt. Thank-you for the nice word-pictures.

Bonnie, I feel like I've taken a few steps back with ya! You always seem to touch some part of me with your poetry. I just love your writing.

Dear Bonnie. I understand! As you know, holding your piece is sometimes torture. But if you had to say what was in your heart, then there is a reason for it. God is a great fertilizer to a waning garden. We all get a little wilted sometimes. I hope you can weed out the bad feelings and I know that something beautiful will grow there soon.
Love Regina
