the lust of my flesh craves destruction;
  a force beyond my control
the unquenchable thirst for corruption
  that jeopardizes my soul

how i despise my addiction
  that burns so deep within.
torn between desire and conviction:
my body draws close to sin

the freedom for which is well hid
like color unknown to the blind.
it's price is worth paying: i eagerly bid
but money can't purchase its kind

i cannot touch its reality
as long as i am alive.
it can only be bought by fatality.
so for its worth, i willingly die.

this poem is how i feel about my smoking habit and dying to it.

Welcome!  Nice first post.  We'll be looking  forward to more.  Yes, it's extremely difficult to die to our old selves (bad habits and ways).  Keeping Christ first and foremost in all things at all times is our best bet, but it's a really tall order.

Son,  For each of us there is a proclivity for some weakness--mine is not cigarettes--yet I struggle with others, so I know how you feel.  As Paul said, "I die daily"( I Cor.15:31) and so we must make it our daily choice-and in so choosing believe that we are choosing life!(2 Peter 1:2-10)
God bless you in your struggles, through Christ to overcome,  David

And I also welcome you to this forum!

It's bondage I know. I smoke too. I know each of us has a similar habit or addiction. The human in us is weak. Your words are very strong. I trust God to help me overcome the pain of my weakness. I enjoyed your poem and it's message. I look forward to more.
Sincerely,
Rwood

Welcome to the Forum!!!!

Very nice flow and a strong message in what you have written.

I know this struggle all to well... I am also a smoker and made the decision to set a quit date and stand by it. The rest will be placed in God's hands to help me get through.

Kim
