PART TWO: A Curious Friendship Made

I returned inside to the judgment hall
The charges seemed trumped-an untrue thing,
And so I asked of this Jesus
"Are you in fact, the Jew's King?"

Much to my surprise he asked me
"Just why are you wanting to know?
Is it for your own understanding--
Or did others just say it was so?"

He answered, "It is as you say."
But the chief priests were shouting him down,
And much to my amazement
He answered them not a sound!

I said, "Do you not hear their charges
That they against you do make?
Your life is here on the line
Answer you not, for your sake?

He said, "My Kingdom's not of this world
Or my servants would fight for my sake,
These Jewish leaders are out to get me
But of them, in truth, I'm not afraid!"

When I asked, point blank, "Are you a King?"
He said, "You've rightly said these words,
For I was born for this cause
All those of the truth, my voice hears."

By then I thought I'd heard enough--
I'm getting no where, this matter was mute,
And thus venting off some frustration
I cynically asked, "What is Truth?"

Then I told the chief priest and the people
"In this man, no fault I see"
But they said, "He stirs up much people
Beginning in Galilee!"

When I determined He was a Galilean
I thought, I would change the venue,
He, being under Herod's jurisdiction--
I sent him for Herod to view.

And believe it or not- so it was
The only thing gained, in the end,
Was that since I send Jesus to Herod
Being pleased, Herod and I became friends.

But this did not end the matter
Herod saw him and sent him back,
He wouldn't perform a wonder for him
So they returned him, being mock by Heord's pack.
