HIS WOUNDS

The dogwood tree
has begun to bloom.
Bright pink and lovely,
just in time
for this Holy Week.

I brought a blossom
close to see
the perfect beauty
there,
only to recall the
legend,
heard many years
ago.

The crown of thorns,
central to the petals,
a crown placed on His
head,
mocking all He is.
The wounds that tip
each petal there,
four in all,
hands and feet.

The suffering that
You endured for us,
touches my heart,
and brings my tears.

Yet here placed on
a delicate blossom,
beauty and pain
combined.

Is this a cruel
contradiction?
Or a lesson to be
learned?

The beauty of the pain
You suffered,
is the Love unselfishly
You give.

This Grace that flows,
from Your shed Blood,
transforms our hearts,
renews our souls.

So we may blossom
in Your LOVE,
and flowering,
change the world!

Ellie,
This is a beautiful retelling of the legend of the Dogwood tree-bloom with insightful questions and observation.  Nicely done,   David

Ellie,
Thank you for this lovely poem explaining the meaning of the Kousa Dogwood. I have two in my yard, but they are late bloomers. I knew there was a sybolic meaning to the flower, but never knew the meaning. Than you

Dear Ellie,
Beautiful words. Thanks for reminding me of the dogwood, I have two on either side of my steps going out my front porch.
Love,
Erie

I don't recall if I've ever heard of that, but you've brought it across so well you brought tears to my eyes. What a blessing you bring!
