God Takes and Gives

A repost from Open #5
(On Parkinsons Disease)

For everything God takes away
It seems He gives back even more
A hundred favors in a day
Of wonders to be thankful for

He took away my lively step
Perhaps I was too in a rush
He slowed me down so I could hear
The morning song of feathered thrush

So I could witness every bloom
And every bud along the way
Every petal opening
Its velvet wing to light of day

He took away my steady hand
Which wrote in fine calligraphy
But gave a keyboard full of words
To write these lines of poetry

He opened up the skies to me
And gave me friends around the world
For everything He took away
A finer gift was then unfurled

He took away the ability
To walk a distance, run a mile
But then replaced it with a gift
An inner happiness and smile

He takes the words from out my head
And slows me down in simple speech
But fills my soul with endless joy
Which always seemed beyond my reach

He slowly takes my life from me
In little steps, in little parts
But gives it back to me in love
A thousand fold to fill my heart

He’s taken all my strength from me
But gave me love to so uplift
That nothing I could ever give
Would compensate this wondrous gift

Lizzie~
God holds you in the tender comfort
of His hand.  He'll never give you
more than you can bear. (though sometimes
I'm sure it seems that way)
Keep the faith, dear lady.

I loved this when I first read it
and it has even more depth and meaning
to me now.
Love to you and Tony.

Thank you Marge,
No, He hasn't given me more than I can bear. If it weren't for this disease, I wouldn't be writing poetry, nor would I have ever met you and all the wonderful friends I've met at Passions. As for Tony's condition, we are optimistic despite the new revelations. I believe things will turn our well. And it seems we are more content, because we are living each day to the fullest. I posted this poem again because it is so relevant to what our family is experiencing right now.
Thank you for reading a second time and for your kind comments
Love
Liz

dear Liz; this beautiful poem speaks of the courage of a most wonderful soul. I so admire that courage. Remember that most people give up or just get miserable. You are a marvelous example of faith and hope to us all. Thank you so much. Ellie

Liz, you forgot what a strong soul and spirit he's given you! I am awed by your attitude when I read of these things and how you see them. You are an inspiration, God knew you could handle it.

It always seems to me the special ones in life are those handicapped from something. They're the ones who seem to have the deepest, truest faith I've ever seen.

If I may Liz, I would like to post this over my list of Charity Chatter. All rights yours of course! Would you allow me to do this?

God bless you lady, your courage certainly has to rub off on others!

Elizabeth,
You display a wonderful attitude of acceptance which opens you up to the Joys & peace which can be yours despite your crippling condition. Many would have allowed themselves to be further crippled and hindered by a spirit of self-pity, and exasperation.   Good for you, keep looking for God's Goodness & grace & you will find it!

   God bless you,    David

Kathleen,
It is I who am honored. Thank you

Wht Dove,
Of course you may use this poem in Charity Chatter. Thanks so much for your lovely comments

David,
Fortunately I am still leading a normal life, though my lifestyle has changed, Where once I was a work-a-holic, I am now living again. A much richer life, wouldn't you say?
Thanks for your remarks

Liz,

The beauty of God's gifts are there for all of us, but so many do not appreciate them. I am very moved by your sincerity and truly inspired by your positive outlook. You are truly blessed and I wish you the best.
