Exquisite Gift

He wakens me in darkened room
In halo’s corner sings a tune
A splendid loving melody
Of twinkling crests on rippled sea

And patiently he waits his turn
No hurried step, no timely yearn
No lighted candle does he burn
And patiently he waits his turn

Then gracefully he comes to me
No vision of his face I see
And know not I who he may be
Though try I may, I cannot see

But knowing that he bears a gift
My vacant spirit to uplift
His presence welcomed openly
I wait my turn as patiently

Then in the halo lighted room
He comes to me and fills my womb
Exquisite spirit, meek and mild
Exquisite gift - my future child

Liz, you have taken my breath away with this lovely, lovely poem. It reads like pure silk, and touched me deeply as a mother myself. I loved carrying each of my children and thank God every day for the blessing they are. Ellie

Thank you all for your kind comments. This poem is about a spiritual experience I had when I was pregnant with my first child. It happened before anyone could have detected in a medical sense that I was pregnant, in other words, right after conception. And though there were no voices involved, I was somehow aware of what was happening. I knew at that moment that I was pregnant.I have met one other woman who had this same experience

The mother in me has goosebumps, the poet in me is nodding, and the Christian in me knows there are spiritual blessings all around; with your words, you awaken us. Lovely.
