Why is it when it's much too late,
We know what should have been done?
Yet the lesson learned is forgotten,
As another battle's not won.

Why do we say "I'll call you"
Yet never pick up the phone?
Too busy with insignificant things,
Till we realize we are alone.

Instead of enjoying the best in life,
Sharing time with family and friends,
We're too wrapped up in our own little world,
Too involved with the odds and the ends.

Until we hear the awful news,
Of a friend who has suddenly passed,
At work on her forty-third birthday,
No inkling this day was her last.

We were going to "get together"
Catch up on the last few years,
But today it isn't shared laughter,
That brings the lingering tears.

How I wish I'd just followed through,
Just called when she came to my mind,
Gotten our group together once more,
Shared our lives - just one more time.

Oh, I know that she's in a better place,
Now her laughter's a song to God's ear,
And I'm sure He's embracing her tenderly,
But it's hard not to wish her still here.

All that's left now is a sad goodbye,
As she walks with the angels above,
And to wish her Godspeed on her journey,
To her new home surrounded by love.

In Loving Memory of "Gwen"
4/7/57 - 4/7/00
Oh, how you will be missed.

Oh Bonnie, this is so sad. Yet so typical of our lives today. I often think of "live each day as it were your last," those are hard words to live by.

You're right, we seem to learn a lesson after we needed it, and then too easily forget about it. This is a great reminder to us all, to take time and tend to those things that aren't so insignificant.
Thanks so much Bonnie for sharing this!
Fantasic poem!
Sorry for the loss of your friend

Dear Bonnie: I'm so sorry that you have lost a dear friend. It is sad that we mean to call and get together, and we don't, never knowing when we could lose someone like you have. You have written a beautiful tribute to her, and a sad reminder to us all. Ellie

Very touching tribute, just goes to show us how fleeting life is, and what is really important. Sorry for your loss.
