As I stand here looking
Upon the people I've been given
And I ache deep inside
For they just don't understand

They cry for the loss of one
Fail to see that it's a sleep
A mere transition of the spirit
From the sinful nature of flesh

Try as I might to explain
The plan of why I'm here
They have clouded minds
And cannot see through the haze

The intention of their hearts
Is of good, for it is of love
But their blindness makes them stand
In the way of my given path

For with a purpose I have come
Only to do the will of my Father
To come unto the lost sheep
To give life more abundantly

From my birth I knew
what I was sent forth to do
I came to save your life
By giving mine for yours

You cannot begin to see
The height nor depth
nor the unconditional
Love that I hold for you

I have done all I could do
Given all that I have to give
I've given my very life
So you could be with me

And asked if there might be
Another way to pass the cup of wrath
So it, you wouldn't have to endure
But now, the choice is left to you

I have given you all things
I have hung upon the cross
I have planned from beginning to end
And now, I can say "It is finished"

Rebecca--
This is a very unique perspsective of Jesus passion, and suffering for unknowing, undeserving, imperceptive humanity--and that is through the eyes of Jesus Himself. You have amassed many interesting and timely thoughts from Jesus own viewpoint.  You did VERY WELL in meeting this challenge, most noble Moderator.

Let me as one other thing for those who may not be aware of it:  In the Gospels,we are given the words of Christ from the Cross,
generally counted as 7(a perfect number) in all. But if one would like to get a Biblical insight to Jesus thoughts from the Cross, and Biblically prepictured & foretold, then read PSALM 22-which starts of with the Familar words,"My God, My God, why has Thou forsaken in."  That makes for a very interesting study as we seek to pursue & find the Mind of Christ.
Thank you for your very insightful poem,
      David

Yes, he quoted that chapter on the cross.
And His last words on the cross were "It is finished."  I didn't know if everyone would catch on to that or not. Thanks David!

Dear Rebecca; I love how you put Jesus words together here with the strong and powerful message of His salvation and love for each of us. It truly is our choice to surrender to that love. great job. Ellie

Thank you Ellie and Sept for your replies.
I'm not sure it all makes sense, but that's what came to me.

Excellent poem, Becky! I remember singing a spiritual song at Easter - I think it was the 'Seven Last Words' or something. Each 'word' had a different melody. The first one was "Lamb of God, to Calvary they had sent you on the cross to suffer and to die"...This reminded me of that song..

Sharon, David mentioned those 7 last words.
I haven't heard of that song though.
And I'll have to look into those 7 things, as right now I can't think of what they are, or if I've missed them all together.

Bonnie, thanks so much! I'm still pondering over this one...just not sure of it.  Thanks again

Thanks so much Denise!
David, I have a question. Is this 7 words the Elli Elli Lama Shabotona? (My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me?)

This is quite different, being from Jesus' perspective.  It's also a great writing.  I'm very proud of your work, Dear.
