Swollen and tired
Sickly and worn
With a baby inside me
There was something wrong

The doctors did not listen
To my complaints
You're just with child
These things happen sometimes

At four months along
I knew I almost lost you
So I quit my job
And slept the days through

At six months along
I knew it would be soon
Everone thought I was crazy
I prayed every day for you

I told my husband then
Military, and leaving for the field
I'll need to get a hold of you
When this baby comes

Even he said "Don't worry,
You'll be alright,
But just in case something happens
Here's the number for you to call"

Within 24 hours
I used that number
Late on a Friday night
You refused to slumber

My neighbors were gone
NO one was around
I panicked and cried out
27 miles from the nearest town

Finally, headlights
My neighbor drove in
I called her to come quickly
She dropped the phone and ran

They drove 90 miles an hour
To the hospital In Fort Riley
The nurses on duty
Had little hope for your arrival

But I held on to my faith
Because all along
A voice from the heavens
Prepared me to be strong

Even the doctors
That came to my side
I could see the remorse
And doubt in their eyes

Once again we were transported
And flew like the wind
To Topeka Kansas
They had a prenatal clinic

Your father was awakened
In the middle of the field
Asleep in a tent
A cell phone was given

Amazingly he knew
That it was about you and me
And made it to the hospital
Still painted in camouflage green

They gave me doses
To keep you from coming
But that only lasted two days
Nothing would stop you

Every breath that I took
I took it for you
In prayer and crying out
For God to see me through

Pain ripped through my body
For eight hours or more
I fought to hold out
To bring you into this world

Finally peace
Enveloped me
When you arrived
And cried out to me

You were 2 pounds 6 ounces
With little trails of hair
The size of my hand
But I did not despair

A miracle they cried
The hopital staff
Rushed to your side
Amazed at your strength

You were so willfull
Even back then
I thanked God for your existence
I didn't do it by myself

Even though you were tiny
And in an incubator for two months
You knew my voice
You knew my touch

I have a picture
Of you, in your protected world
On the side of the incubator
A sign was taped on

"God's tiniest little angel"
A true child of the Lord
For even the doctors
Were at a loss for words

I know there are angels
Watching over me
You are eleven years old now
And stubborn as can be

But for me, there is peace
In my heart today
Because of you, my darling
They traveled a million miles away

This is a true account of my daughter, who I carried for only 6 months. Her eyes were still sealed like a kittens. I had constant premonitions that she would be born early. Their was a long medical term for her condition, in which the doctors said I should have never carried her past 3 months along. They listed her birth as one of a kind with several anomalies. But she didn't even have to go a respirator. I told them "There are some things meant for you to do, and there are some things that only God can do"! They agreed. She is completely healthy and sound. She is beautiful! She is a miracle! She is my guardian angel in the flesh. And believe me she brought many spiritual ones with her.

This is so totally awesome! I'm blown away to say the least. What a miracle!!  I can't thank you enough for sharing such a touching story with us.  I have a picture I think would fit just perfect with this. As I saw it today and it's what I thought of when I read this.  God bless you, He has already.
If I can get the picture to work on here I'll put it up.

A beautiful account of your feelings and the miracle.  Dr. said I was destined for another miscarriage 4 mos. into my pregnancy with Wht.Dove, but she was just about full term.  God will not be mocked, and often I think He makes everything look so predictable,  then shocks us with a miracle to remind us to rely on Him not just history.

Wow,REGINA,  isn't it fanatastic how it works, God gave you your own precious little guardian angel to love& cherish, and you became the Faithful trusting god-mother(guardian angel Mom) that she needed to survive initially and to thrive now.
What a wonderfully divine story of reciprical love between the 3 of you and how wonderfully touched and in touch your life has been!  I am filled with awe and respect having read this most touching poetic account, adding yet anoyher wonderful dimension to Ellie's Great Challenge--I would rank this among the challenges met as SUPERB!!!!  Thank you so much for sharing it with us,   David
