Within the Hearts of Many Righteous

Deep within the hearts of many righteous men and women
there are hidden pains and longings never ceasing to annoy.
And pensive sighs of heaviness escape the breasts of many saints
especially those who've tasted in some measure of the heavenly joy.
And strangely is is just because they have that they lament and mourn.
For all their yearnings have been birthed through righteous vision they once had.
And since the glory they beheld, alas, seems now so far removed
their minds are sometimes sorrowful, disconsolate, and keenly sad.
Walking as it were just like the two on that Emmaus road
they wrestle in themselves with questions, disappointments, fears.
And hopes which are eclipsed they try in vain to cast their eyes upon,
those morning truths so vivid they once thought would shine throughout all years,
which peered from their horizon as a fiery orange crescent
slowly rising, ever widening to the orb of noonday's sky.
The sun which came in majesty and shown with matchless splendour
to rejoice them seems but vanished, a mere phantom.  And they wonder why.
And yet at other times their hearts are touched and strangely warmed,
like when oracles of Moses and the Prophets unto them are read,
when tales of ancient glories holding promises for present times,
or prophecies of things to come, or any words as such are said,
when any inspiration in the mouths of men is touched by God,
when any unction reaches them though not by every tongue which speaks.
For in the bounds of truth are many voices that aspire to lift.
Yet God, remember, chooses who will take us to the mountain peaks.
But even when a man comes forth who speaks as angels never did
to shine a verbal beam which lights the halls of history itself,
when things too high and out of reach are brought down by a human voice
and opened to our minds just like a book fetched from a lofty shelf,
the broken hearts though made to burn will still be mostly unaware
and judge the Christ which cares for them a passing stranger in the night.
Their eyes are somehow veiled to him who walks so close to hear their talk.
Perhaps the time is drawing near when all such may recover sight
to see the Lord their hearts have loved alive and breaking bread with them
and speaking peace into their midst expelling fear with dauntless truth.
What joy it is to see what you once thought as strong before its death
arise as even stronger and retain divine eternal youth!
Though deep within the hearts of many righteous men and women
their are groans and ceaseless hungers never failing to annoy,
the darkness of their night is in proportion to their coming dawn
and sorrows very grievous are the harbingers of greater joy.

Dear Stephen; Very good and true that all the pain does bring even greater joy. Thank you for your encouraging replies to my poems. I'll look forward to more of your wonderful poems.  Ellie

Everyday there is a new hunger isn't there. Our sorrows will lift us up!  We have so many things to learn.  Your words hit home, as we all forget sometimes that he is right there waiting for us to speak to him. Thank you so much for I enjoyed the deep insights in this poem. Beautifully done. Thank you for your kind comments. God bless you.
Sincerely,
Rwood

I missed this one, but I found it

I love this part...

A lot of thought in here, and very well done I might add! Thanks much!

Dear Stephen,
Oh my, what a beautifully written poem. I agree with Whtdove as I loved the same part as she. We as children of God know that we should be rejoysing in our sorrows as we will be joyful when we go to live eternally with the Lord.
May the Lord continue to speak to you Stephen,
God bless you,
Erie
