Ok, here it is...

Elijah

Four hundred fifty prophets
of Ba'al were gathered round
Elijah, that stood for God
Came together in a town

Elijah simply asked them
How long before you decide
Between your two opinions
Which do you choose? None replied

Because you number many
And I, for God, am just one
You supply the bullocks
Their lesson had just begun

They dressed them for the alter
With no fire underneath
Wiped the blood from off the knives
Set them back into their sheath

And now Elijah told them
Pray to your god, and I mine
One who answers by fire
Will be God whom reigns divine

Ba'al's prophets they were first
From sun up until sun down
They prayed and leapt and hollered
But no answer, brought a frown

Elijah with a smile
As he sat and mocked them all
Cry louder he don't hear you
Does he not answer your call?

Elijah fixed the alter
Used a symbol for twelve tribes
With the twelve stones that he used
Israel what it describes

He put all wood in order
Made a trench there round-a-bout
They filled it up with water
Even though there was a drought

Now everything was soaking
Sacrifice and wood and all
Then he called upon the Lord
Fire from Heaven did fall

It consumed even the dust
Sacrifice, water and wood
They all fell to their faces
Not one had misunderstood

That there be only one God
Not another that compares
And HE will always listen
When His will is in our prayers

1Kings 18:21-40

whtDove, You just got to know I love this one!! Do I have your permission to copy, paste and share with a group of Christians? You need to get some copyrights on this one girl. I don't know what that means, exactly, but this is a blessing and I have a couple of friends that your poems says more than I could about faith ( I know it is on worshiping idles') but today anything that keeps us from salvation through Jesus' blood at Calvary is considered a idle of sorts.  Love this one.  Marcy

Rebecca, What a marvelous work you have created retelling this Old Testament account of God making himself known in a glorius manner that left No doubt!  We need to remember GODS fire while we live, so we can avoid it in the next life! WELL DONE!

You took your time, but it was worth the wait!  You sure blew us away with this fantastic Scripture account poem. It is also such a poem that makes you want to say, PRAISE GOD! PRAISE GOD!  For it surely does.

Well David, in my world God works kind of at the last minute. But He works. I really couldn't think of a favorite scripture and wasn't going to do the challenge. But then it came to me about Elijah and I'd forgotten about that.  So see?  He works, and I made it!  Thank you for such a wonderful reply, and all for all the replies you take time to make.

Ellie, thanks so much! I appreciate that! I shall do that!

One of my favorites! The saying " I guess he told you" comes to mind. I even love the name Elijah. This is just wonderfully done. He shows us in so many ways, that he is the only One. Great Poem and the challenge was greatly met.
Sincerely,
Rwood
Ps. Thanks again for the wonderful picture and all your kind comments.

Dovey .... I'm glad you had a chuckle
at my previous response ..   I had a
chuckle too, when I figured out that you
probably didn't realize why I said
Elijah and I had a glass of wine every
year ... LOL
I was raised in the Jewish faith , and
we celebrate the holiday of Passover.
It is tradition that we set a place for
Elijah at our Seder table; wine and
all.... ashamedly, I don't know the
story behind this tradition ... but I
thought it was pretty neat, as a child,
to having a prophet spirit visit us for
supper ... 'S'

Erie thanks so much! He always does answer my prayers, may not always be the answer I'm looking for, but I believe He answers them.

Pepper you're right I new it was something, but I didn't understand what you meant. I had a feeling you were serious about that.
Ya know I find that really interesting!
If ever find out that story behind the tradition, let me know won't ya?

I believe in the Passover, for that's what was celebrated before Easter became a tradition.  (In my book, Easter is in the bible one time, and actually translated wrong. It is Ishtar, and has to do with furtility, hence the bunnies and such.) Though biblically speaking, I don't know of that (passover) and any connection of Elijah.  Please if you do find out the story, I'd be very interested in hearing it.

Pepper, sorry to post here but what you said about setting a place for Elijah at dinner, Wow, to me, that is a real act of real faith, what a great tradition.
WDove, with each reading, it just gets better and better. I can't help myself, my favorite is Abraham. As a child, Abraham was my hero, not Elvis or Dale Evans, but Abraham!  God Bless you all, Marcy
