I walk a trail
That was blazed
By those who first
Visioned the destination
Of the journey

With sickle and saw
They cut a path
Through the thickets
Of the wood
First guided by a star
Then by the sun.

The hand soled shoes
Of all who followed
On that path
Packed the sod
Leaving a trail
That was unmistakable

Onward they traveled
On weary dusty feet
As brambles reached
Out to snare them,
Harsh winds threw
Branches and sometimes
Logs across their path

With strong wills
And faith to do
The impossible
They climbed over
Under, and through
Whatever obstacle
Was flung across
Their path

Their determination
Kept moving them
Forward
At times their feet
Moved slowly through
Wet clay swamp trails
Then struggling to mount
Vast hills

Hungry and tired
Thoughts of turning back
Sometimes crossed their minds
Yet then the vision of the journey's end
Persuaded them gently to go on
Sometimes temptation spoke
"Turn around go back!"
This thought was jarred by
The reality
The distance back
Was further
Then the distance home..

Nicely written.  A 15yr.old girl sent me a spiitual poem saying she didn't know anyone else in her life who'd appreciate it.  I cried.  The trailblazers encouraging us on, mean so much and your poem brings it out.  Thank you.

Very well done. The struggles of our forefathers and their strength compell us to move forward..even in spiritual growth. The ending is so true. Wonderfull!
Sincerely,
Rwood

WOW Septsong, This is beautiful, what a tribute to all of those who blazed the trails for us, and a great way to help us to remember to do all we can for those who will come after us..... Thanks  Bonnie

i love this message.  it reminds me of what Paul said in Phil. 3:13-14 and I Cor. 9:24-27
running the race towards heaven with the cloud of witnesses all around.  Steve Green wrote a wonderful song on this topic, too.  you have captured this same message clearly and beautifully.

This is really beautiful, and what a powerful message!  Reading this touches a place in me - days like today make me want to just *pack up my tent and go home*....after reading this, I have a small spark of courage to carry on.  Thank you...I think I'll read it again, to let it sink in a bit deeper.    I also wanted to tell you how much your email meant to me...I know I didn't reply back, as at that time, I didn't really know what to say to anyone.  I appreciated your story, and your words of wisdom.  It meant more to me than you know.  pFF
