I remember Lord
When sleep was broken
As my baby would wake
Wet or hungry

I prayed for the day
She'd sleep all night
And when she finally did
I awoke in fright

I remember the times
that I'd lay wide awake
I worried about everything
That happened that day

Tired and weary
I zombied through life
My mind more clouded
With each sleepless night

When I was younger
My friends and I
Would stay up talking
When they'd spend the night

And now I'm older
Sleep never comes
If my husband and I
Ever have a fuss

A big day at the office
A heavy work load
Anxiety brings me
To the clock watching mode

No need for an alarm
Each hour I wake
It's like there's a smirk
On the clocks face

Time for vacation
We head for the lake
In a cabin of peacefullness
I still lie awake

No sleep for the weary
I can voutch for this
Many nights I longed
For the sandman's kiss

I even became jealous
Of my husband's snore
If I could sleep that soundly
I'd complain no more

Even my dog
My sweet loving pet
Would look at me scornfully
It's not time to get up yet!

One night I realized
As I fought my pillow
I lumbered to the bathroom
And looked in the mirror

Red eyes and baggage
Haggering me
Don't you know
Why you can't sleep?

A voice inside
Cried out to me
"Ssshhhh be still
And I'll talk to thee"

The night comes to you
The only moments of peace
It's the only time I can get you
To listen to me

Every day you are too busy
To take the time
To hear my wisdom
To see my design

So I'm sorry
to bother you
But there are things
I want you to do

From this night on
When you're lying awake
All you need to do
Is listen and pray

An all nighter on occasion
I'll get you through
Trust in me
As I trust in you

And when the light comes
Day breaks in peace
Because you spent the night
Talking to me

Your thoughts will be clear
When you go out today
Someone needs to hear
Of my saving grace

I'll guide you and lead you
When troubles descend
You have my word on it
On this you can depend

I know that you feel
You've been put to the test
I'll lighten your burdeons
So you can rest

You are just one
My messengers are many
While you may be sleeping
Others don't get any

One more thing
While I have your attention
I love you my child
You're my greatest invention

Now Go back to bed
And lay your head down
Now that we've talked
You can go to sleep now

Sweet Dreams!

Dearest R; Oh! Wow! How I love this poem! The very same thing happens to me. We are truly one in spirit, R. I hear His voice and do my best praying in the middle of the night when I can't sleep. It is the only time there is the stillness to hear Him. Thank you dear sister in Christ. Love, Ellie

Very smoothly written, almost like a lullaby, I find peace flowing out of it.

I remember thinking when our boys were babies, 'for just one night's sleep'. I
have a sleeping problem, I think I will start pulling the all-nighter's, at least I will feel better in the mornings! Better yet, just start listening and giving Him time during the day and the  all-nighter will be optional! Great poem!

This is great! This reminds me of the poem...
The Difference

I got up early one morning
and rushed right into the day,
I had so much to accomplish
that I didn't have time to pray.

Problems tumbled about me
and harder came each task.
"Why doesn't God help me?" I wondered.
He answered, "You didn't ask."

I wanted joy and beauty,
but the day was gray and bleak,
I wondered why God didn't show me,
He said, "You didn't seek."

I tried to come into God's presence;
I used all my keys at the lock.
God gently and lovingly said,
"My child, you didn't knock."

I woke up early this morning,
and paused before starting the day.
I had so much to accomplish
that I had to take time to pray.

Thanks Ellie, Septsong, Alle', and Whtdove. I'm glad someone can relate. I used to fall to bed when the kids were little. Sleep comes harder now they are half grown. I just keep thinking there's something I forgot to do! I LOVE that poem Whtdove!
Sincerely,
Rwood

This is a great poem that I can really relate to. I find that I have trouble sleeping (big test tomarrow, feuding friends, society as a whole, esc..) and I can relate to many of the thoughts in this poem. Keep up the good work!
