(May I let you in on a little secret? 2 poems, this one and "Getting the Best out of Blessings" are actually the poetic version of the sermons I preached the last 2 weeks.  So if you were unable to attend services--consider this as your Sermon
in verse(minus the Scriptural verses)--If any want them e-mail me and I will be happy to supply that ,too) -dlw-

When it comes to growing old
We can not turn back Time's Hands,
Tho'being old, is not what we choose--
Best figure it into your plans.

But other aspects of Growth exist
In which we have some say,
And so like the "Serenity Prayer"
Know the Difference, and Change what we may!

Let me first share with you
Some things in which we CAN grow,
And then we will also note
That growth where we need NOT to go.

First, we can Spiritually GROW UP,
Not be a weak babe all our days,
Once a child, now be mature
Growing up in the Lord, in all ways.

Next we can grow in our FAITH
And pass from a Weak faith to Strong,
You do that by hearing God's Word
Applying it where it belongs.

In Biblical LOVE choose to grow
Abounding, perfecting it's use,
The world, then can know we are His
By that Greater Love which we choose!

Thus we can grow in the GRACE OF GIVING
As Paul in 2nd Corinthians says,
Yes,"'Tis more Blest to give than receive"
And the more we give, more we are Blest.

But there's also so things to watch out
Areas where we NEED NOT to grow,
Like NOT GROWING WEARY in well doing--
In due season we'll reap what we sow.

Because iniquity doth abound
Some in their love will GROW COLD,
But this need not be our plight
If Christ we will rightly hold.

More WORLDLY we can become
And reverse Spiritual Progress we've know
If on worldly things we seek and depend
We'll cancel what good we have sown.

So Father Grant the SERENITY
To ACCEPT the things that must be,
But GROW and CHANGE in all the things
That You are wanting to see in me.

I just love the way the Lord speaks through you. I may have said this before. I feel his gentle kindness in your poems. I know I will learn fathoms of wisdom from you and others here. Thanks for helping me grow!

Wonderful David, and I didn't know you preached.  What a surprise...we'll have to talk of that sometime.

Thank you for this thoughtful and meaningful work. Your insight and ability to covey it through verse is truely a gift. We must strive for maturity and grow along the way.
Thanks again, Dennis :^)

wow there was so much in there, it was packed with goodies!  Your talent never fails to amaze me David, this was incredible. I didn't know your were a pastor? It's always the things you've heard so often and think you know well enough to not hear them again that God will put before you and make fresh and alive. Thanks for that, i certainly have them fresh in my spirit again, much needed.

Amen - God does sculpt us into the person we are to be.  The serenity prayer I have found vital in my life to the acceptance of things as they unravel around me. This poems goes one step beyond that.  Beautiful work David.

Another astounding piece of art filled with biblical wisdom!  This one almost got by me, and I'd have missed a real blessing.  Thank you for all your postings and the kind encouragement you've given me.
