Oh what fears inside my belly grows
the kicking of someone's little feet
my heart keeps time
my body defines
the swelling of every beat
what magical dreams
you came to be
your tiny, silly putty face
now chiseled and molded
with attitude and eyes rolling
to every thing I say
I don't have all the answers
I have a lot of questions
Like how did you get so tall?
Just yesterday you were so small...
I mourn for my little boy
Where did he go?
Does he know I miss him so?
Oh the kicking of little feet
now feels like a stampede
across my heart that used to beat
simply for the smell of your little head
the touch of your tiny hand
the bright blue in your eyes
I hope you realize
Someday
Letting go is like...
Someone is taking you away!
But I will step back
and let you run the race
God give me strength
as I look at your peach fuzz face
with razor in hand you're becoming a man
I'll hold the tears back somehow
Because You are... Someone now

Dear r; this poem is so beautiful! I have two sons, ages 19 and 28, and I know just how you are feeling, it goes in a flash. WELCOME! I'm looking forward to hearing more from you!  Ellie

WELCOME!  Wow! Though mine are quit old enough for razors yet, though I sure can relate to this one! Once little toddlers and the touching and hugs. Have now become, how can I put this, independence? The words that hurt, hmmn, I can surely relate to this!

I hope to see more from you, and I hope you will enjoy the spiritual forum. We have a great bunch of people here. Please check your email for a special welcome!

Oh the hands of time we cannot control
So train up a child in the way they should go
Then surround them constantly with prayer
And trust they're always in God's care.

Lovely writing from the heart of a loving mom.  Welcome  aboard!

You laid your heart out in poem. Nice.
I can relate to your emotions, which you
clearly displayed, as my boys are men
now.
"Oh the kicking of little feet
now feels like a stampede
across my heart that used to beat"

I really liked this line.

well i'm late but better late than never - WELCOME!  I can't relate because i'm only 20, but i thought your poem was beautiful - heartfelt, nostalgic... I liked the ending, it was in a sense a letting go.  It must be difficult, but know that you have done your part, and done a good job - that will never be forgotten.  Great poem by a great mum.
