What if the Book was really true
When most thought it fiction?
What if it held hidden truths,
Written to be studied
Written in picture code language
In order for it's message
To be discerned
Through generations
To come?

What if it's vital message was hidden
Because men scoffed at it
Saying it was old fashioned
Holding no intrinsic value?
What if most men burned it like
Yesterday's paper
Or placed it high
On a shelf
For display
Thinking it value
Was only sentimental
Or an old history book?

What if one day all awoke
to find those tales
That many of their
Grandparents had believed
Were really true
Jesus had been
Who he claimed
And now every eye
Could see him as

FRONT PAGE NEWS!

Who would be the foolish ones?
Those who believed and didn't care
Those who refused or neglected to read it
Or the ones who said it was a lie?

A strong message.  Of course, all three groups would be the foolish ones.  I read a lot of religious works, and unfortunately many of the modern Christian scholars are bigger scoffers than the average sinner.  Example: Have you ever read the footnotes of the New American Version or of the Oxford Annotated Bible?  Pretty sad stuff.

WOW! This is excellent! It is true, it is hidden. For it says, here a little there a little!  A little searching must be done.
There are those who don't believe, and what a shame that is!  When he returns, EVERY knee shall bow, and EVERY eye shall see, the coming of His glory!

Very well stated here!

This reminds me of my grandfather saying an aquaintence asked him, what if he tried so hard to live according to the bible and found out when he died that none of this was real?  My Gramps said his whole life would have been so much better for his belief anyway, then said to his friend, "And what if you die and find it is real?"  Nice poem, packed with truth.  Thanks

As a researcher of the "Old & New" testaments in the Greek & Hebrew... this piece really hits a strange note, in that... the many times down through the ages "man" has altered God's Word. As my wife I talk of it often how little things have slipped in over time, like God's name (YHVH) Yahwah, and how it's been changed 7000 times in the Old T. alone... with the divine title of LORD inserted instead. Jesus told His Father in a prayer that he had declared his Father's name to the disciples. My wife and I chuckle many times when we read stuff like "...my name is the lord, or ...who ever calls upon yhe name of the Lord." Research is great..! But thank God we have the Holy Spirit to get us through, we'd surely be lost without Him.

Your question in poem is very compelling-the WHAT IF  of reality & truth!  Why are so many willing to gamble that it isn't--they really don't gain anything--But in trusting that it is, through Christ we have everything to gain.  Thank you for your wonderful inquiry & insight.  God Bless, David

Just as David found the What if of your poem compelling, I found the last question compelling.  What a brilliant way to end such a thought-provoking poem!  I agree, all three would be foolish.  It's amazing when you look around how many there are that fit into those categories - and to think that i was once in one to!  We need to be praying about exactly what your poem talks about - thanks for sharing - and a great poem!
