These walls I've built
around my heart
mark the boundaries of my prison.
Fear helped me secure the
barbed wire in place,
grinned as I hung up the
"Danger - keep out" sign.
Tethered me to his side.

     Open your heart to me
     Says Love.

We lie together on a mattress
in the centre of this room,
I plotting my escape,
dreaming of freedom;
Fear clothing me in stagnancy,
feeding me self pity, pinning me
down, raping my hope.

     Open your heart to me
     Says Love.

The wallpaper is a live beat
of brokenness; coloured
with bruises, dried tears, festering wounds.
These walls contain only so much air,
and I have sucked up all the
available oxygen.
I am breathing pain.
I am drowning.

And I long to be a Jack in the box.

I really like this poem, it is so desciptive of the way you were feeling, and the analogy you used brings the feelings alive. I too remember throwing up walls to escape hurt, not a good thing to do for too long. Ends up doing more harm than good. Take care, and hope you find the freedom to love.

Mirjam, Your imagery is exquisite, and your pain is vividly portrayed here.  It kind of reminded me of the 3 Little pigs, but Love unlike the Wolf, is the hero/ And Love unlike the wolf doesn't just destroy and plunder, but welcomes(invites) and perhaps wonders.  Your poem was very touching--if you are crying for help here--know that we are all here for you, David

Thank you all - you guys are great.  I'm ok really, i'm just finding it hard to break down the barrier that i've thrown up even against God, i'm glad this poem portrayed that ok.  Thanks for all your comments, and loving support.
Deleeme, that was interesting, about the pigs and the wolf.  I like the thought of Love being the wolf and knocking those walls down - you got me thinking!

Fantastic writing!  We definitely form our own prisons out of fear and it becomes harder and harder to open up to vulnerability again after deep hurts.

What can I say?

You are one of the brightest people O know- and remember I told you have such a gift to bring God to people without you even realising?

Hold on to that hon...

Love you, see you soon
