I watch dust mites swim into that
stream of sunlight, jerk away in a
current of sudden air to swirl spiral
slow dance down and settle on the heart.

It is my heart, drooped precariously
over the altar edge, a modified
Dali in the making.
I placed it there, an offering
lacking reluctance.

It's incessant beat sings
"I sur -ren- der," while
another melody capers this
chapel's stone walls: "Holy,
holy, holy is the Lord."
Their voices are strings of a harp,
this angelic host surrounding
the sacrifice like hungry vultures.

I close my eyes to the
pressure of peace, feel His gentle
hand descend upon this
deadened heart.
Stretched taut across the altar,
it opens, inhales new life,
exhales freedom.

Gold dust now coats the sacrifice,
and I know that etched upon it's
beating structure is the Father's will;
perfect and holy.
I pick it up, and wear it
into the world.

Mirjam,
The matter of true self-sacrifice is not an easy matter-nor one to be attempted lightly, but whole heartly in the spirit of  total surrender to the will of God.  The poetic picture accurately paints the solemnity of it, and  that difficulty, but also shows the blessed fruit of such submission, by divine enrichment.  The depth of the details here described --suggest to me, that it was written by one who has so experience such in her life.
Thank you for sharing it with us.

How glorious is this poem! You've captured the pure essence of God's message of total surrender. The angels surely help you write this one.

David - thanks for your lovely comment - you certainly reap in the blessings when you follow God's will over your own... thanks for reading!!!

Whtdove - i'm glad it made you think - you're right, isn't this such a wonderful place - i don't know what i'm going to do when university starts up again - i guess God will provide me with even a little bit of time to spend here... you guys are great, your poetry is great... we could go on more but I'll just say thanks so much and leave it at that.

Ellie - thanks!  You're right, they sure did! (isn't it cool when a poem just flows out of you and you know the holy spirit helped or even did it for you? AMEN!).

How picturesque...my heart draped over the alter..   Truly a beautiful writing that wouldn't be possible without the reality of your commitment behind it.  Bless you

Peace, such sweet peace when one gives their lives into God's loving hands.  So eloquently written, graceful and shows the truth of God's great love for us.  This is a masterpiece.  Fabulous.  I am so grateful God led me to this place.  You are all fantastic in here.
