I'm new on this forum group and I'm not sure whether
this is the right one to post a poem like this on.
Please tell me, is it?

Willem

WHAT PRICE FREEDOM?

Freedom sprung from promises and dreams
will lead us to a ghastly no-man's land,
where wisdom dies by legal strangulation,
and clever plans implode for lack of soul...

The records of our failures never fade,
the echoes of our lies keep haunting us
in our relentless quest for riches
which fate may turn to worthless scrap...

Such is the heavy price we'll have to pay,
until our unsaved self, the enemy within,
no longer craves for bondage,
disguised as freedom...

Willem,
This place is as good as any!  It may not be a spiritual poem on the surface--yet you make a strong statement of Truth--that being many things in which we seek freedom are the actual causes of our bondage and subsequent misery-bring just the opposite effect of the thing sought.  That has great spiritual meaning & lessons for us.  Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us,   David

I agree with David, Willem. This is an excellent piece that alludes to the pitfalls that can hold us bondage. Welcome to 'Spiritual', Willem! Nice to see you here!

Willem welcome! This is kind of borderline on spiritual, but one interprets it many ways! I think you've done an excellent job and I would love to keep it here! Hope to see more from you!

I loved your poem, because, as everyone said, spiritual bondage is the worst kind. Only God, in his passionate love for us, can truly set us on the path to freedom. Welcome and am looking forward to more of your poetry.

"The records of our failures never fade,
the echoes of our lies keep haunting us"  It is my beliefe that our records of  our failures are the ones that do fade away (unless those failures were results of lessons taught).  If we ask for forgiveness the lies that we told will be forgotten by God and will not haunt us unless we allow them to do so.  This is just what I believe =), but I also believe that this is a wonderful poem, and I am glad that I came accross it

Just be glad I'm not your child! *evil grin*

Dear Echo, you are so right, saying that God Himself will wipe away our guilt feelings about lies and other failures.  I edited my last couplet to show more clearly that by "the heavy price" I meant  a l l  the bad things described in the previous couplets, and that they would no longer burden us if we would just give up our obsession with the wrong kinds of freedom. Please read it again,
and tell me if you like it better now.
Soli Deo Gloria!
