The River Of Life

May the river of my life run freely,
as it flows on from it’s source.
May I have strong banks to support me,
as I attempt to follow it’s course.
May I have bright glistening sunlight,
to help me see the way,
As I dance around each obstacle,
then watch it float away.
May I thunder through the rapids,
where terrain is rocky and rough,
And rest in pools of ponder,
when I find the going tough.
May I shine like silver at twilight,
and run deep with genuine care,
as I embrace each and every experience,
that I find waiting there.
May I not become so flooded,
with raging torrents of ego or pride,
that I break the banks that support me,
causing damage to other lives.
May I always remember that I am flowing,
not stuck and fixed and set.
That it’s not my surface that’s important,
it’s what lies beneath it’s depths.
So as I flow through your life,
may I be loving, calm and serene,
leaving only good thoughts of me,
so you’ll remember that I’ve been.

Very nice analogy, well written, and pleasant to read. I like the sound of it. Pools of ponder, great line.

Catslair,
Have you got it all together! What a thorough, thoughtful and delightful picture of careful concern you offer here as a personal manifesto for your life--worthy of any life!
This is a truly marvelous piece of true substance & character giving great encouragement for imitation of the lofty values to which you aspire.
Thank you, and God bless you,  David

Catslair - this is amazing!  What a beautiful analogy, you know just as you flow through someone's life in this way, Christ flows through ours - with his river of life - eternal life!  I'm sure the recipient of this poem appreciates what a special friend they have in you... I love your play with words, your style, your anaology, the whole poem - what an enjoyable read! bless you.
