As I close my eyes and picture a child,
Perfect in your sight.
I’ll do my best to get this prayer right.

Lord, I come to you with one request.
On my knees, face down before I rest.
Word for word I state to you my need,
For you to bless my womb that carries our seed.

Two eyes to see, one nose to smell.
Two ears to hear, the stories I’ll tell.
One mouth to speak, laugh, and to cry.
A complete body to hold, as each day goes by.

Two arms with two hands that are strong, but
Yet still to weak to hold much.
Five (5) fingers on each hand that are able to touch.
Two legs with two feet that will learn to
Walk, kick, and stand.
Five (5) toes on each foot that will one day
Wiggle in sand.

All organs placed in tact where they should.
Removing all illnesses and diseases
Please if you could.
Let them function to make him or her healthy and strong.
Making sure nothing stops working,
Nothing goes wrong.

Give him or her some traits from the father and I.
The strength, determination, drive from the father.
Along with a keen, sharp eye.
A great sense of humor and
Laughter that doesn’t seem to subside.

Give him or her the gifts you gave to me.
The ability to care and offer unconditional love inspite of –
A Christlike heart, Oh please Lord let it be.
Showing compassion in his or her eyes; Doing things
Out of the sincerity of the heart.
Bless my child with this trait from the very start.

There is no one else that can do what you do.
So, Lord I entrust this prayer with only you.
For this child in my womb is not an embarrassment.
Not a mistake to abort or let go.
He or she is a blessing from you this I know.

Lord this is my prayer, kind of long and detailed.
But I have faith in you Lord and I know
Your word will prevail.
“If I delight myself in you, you will give me
the desires of my heart.”
Trusting in you with all things,
Even this from the very start.

Written for my unborn child by your mother – Shirleeah M. Storey 01/05/2000

First - let me say congradulations.  Now I will say beautiful, heartfelt prayer.  Indeed, your child is a blessing from Him.  I will pray also for you a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Shirleeah, first let me say this is a beautiful poem that I know you will always hold dear to your heart. I also want to say a few words, from one mother to another who has lost a child - I know your pain.  I cry even as I type this to you, even after 8 years since I lost my little girl to miscarriage.  It took me 5 years to even be able to talk about it to anyone without breaking down in tears...It's hard.  So many questions that will probably never have answers.  I want to share something with you that helped me.  Nothing that anyone said to me, made the pain go away, or made my tears stop.  Words cannot heal, only time and God.  I finally found peace though in something my doctor said to me shortly after, as I lay in the hospital.  He simply said, "You know, things happen during the whole fragile and complex beginning of a new life...So many things have to go just right...Nature has a way of seeing tiny things that go wrong, and sometimes when there's a problem foreseen, this is what happens so that a child isn't brought into this world who would suffer an entire life of a severe handicap or illness."  He helped me see and understand that maybe there was something wrong, not because of me or anything I did as a mother, but just something that didn't "connect" just right in her tiny body.  By thinking of it this way, it made it a little easier to understand.  Maybe there was a tiny flaw that would have prevented this particular child from living a happy, healthy, and normal life.  Not that it hurt less to lose her now, but it gave me some peace to let her go, and placing the situation in God's hands, for he knows all.  I know that in Heaven, she has no flaws, no handicaps, no illnesses.  God holds her in his hand, and someday I will see her.
In just reading your poem to your child, I know you prayed for the baby's well being, and health.  That's what made me think of what was said to me.  All mother's want their children to be healthy, and sometimes things just go wrong in the delicate process of our bodies creating a child.    Just know that God knows everything about that pregnancy, and he wouldn't take that child from you just to cause pain....I do believe there was a reason.  Find your peace in God, by knowing he knows more than us...he knew every cell that divided in that baby....and he cares.  Sorry for taking up so much space here with my reply, but I wanted you to know I understand your loss, and your prayers for your child.  I too, have poems I wrote for my little girl, before and after.  Thank you for listening, and I'm here if you ever need to email me.  You will be in my prayers, along with your family.  Lean on God, and have faith that he knows all, and knows what's best for each life... Sincerely,  Gennifer

Dear shirleeah;
Your poem was so beautiful. I am the mother of six wonderful children and I know what a miraculous gift each one is. I could feel how each word of your poem came from your heart and I truly join my prayer to yours.

This poem is so beautiful. I know what you feel I have three children. I think it is every mothers prayer that there child be healthy. Have faith in the Lord and he will give you what you ask for. Ask that he answer your prayers at his will and not yours because he has a reason for everything even if its not what we wanted we need to search and find what he expects from us when he doesn't answer our prayers and find what he needs and wants us to do. I have lost a child also and I was angry for a long time because my prayer was not answered. I then stopped being angry and asked what do you want from me and why did I go through this?
He showed me that by going through my pain that it made me a stronger person which now that it has been 7 years I know why he needed me to be strong. He had plans for me which required me to be strong and help others. I am thankful for the strength he gave me because at the rate that I was I would have never survived the things that I have went through the past 7 years. You and your child are in my prayers.
