Lord watch my sparrows,
As they flutter from the nest
Strengthen their wings
Don't let them tumble to the ground

Keep your watchful eye upon them
Don't let the serpent take them for his prey.

Lord I can't always be there with them
But you are everywhere
So stay close beside them
This is a mother's prayer.

Lord help my sparrows
Fly like eagles yet
Be humble as little doves
Relying on you to guide them
Lord keep them in your love.

This is so lovely and beautiful, a mothers prayer to God is untouchable, this would be great for a Mothers Day church service or mothers dinner!  < !signature-->

well this poem certainly touched me - i myself am a sparrow which will leave it's nest in only a couple of years, and reading this made me realise how hard it must be for a mother to let go - but thankfully you are letting them go into the nurturing hands of God, and your prayer will most certainly be answered.  Beautiful poem.... God bless.

What a lovely prayer!  Something I can definitely relate to being a mother!  Just beautiful!

Where there is GOD,
there is no need.

Amen.  Though I don't live with my children, they are growing rapidly and will be out on their own soon.  I can truly relate to this prayer.  Thank you for sharing.

Thank you all for your comments and yes it is hard to let go, but that is what mothers and fathers have to do, no matter how dificult. How else would they learn to fly on their own?  You know the internet is making it easier to communicate between the generation gaps, especially this site where we are able to listen to each other's hearts, young or old or in between.

This is lovely - and it made me think of those sparrows who are torn away early from the nest - with little choice. Such was I - and because of that I still want to fly back to it, even though I am mid twenties. A powerful poem indeed - that has many facets to it.
And I agree with the generation gap view - many of my friends here are over 50.

Well done.

I love it! being the mother of six, and praying every day for His will to be done in their lives, your poem and your gift for analogy , was glorious!
