This a poem i wrote a while back but thought i'd post.

Lord I nurture a garden of deception,
vines choking once colourful flowers,
weeds long since undertaken a revolution.
Daily i water these plants,
finely sharpen roses' thorns to deadly blades;
spray incectocide as a protective covering
against any truth that may threaten.
I have locked those iron gates,
it is dusk and the day is closing
yet i cannot sleep.  Rotting fruit
burns my nostrils, lies buzz around my head,
and the vines which encase my heart
pull too tightly - i am held hostage
beneath their weight.  They are pulling,
pressing, taking over
                 (Lord take me over.)

I gave the gardener a key a while ago -
asked Him to rip out the stench-coated weeds,
sever the constricting vines, paint
kaleidoscopic flowers anew, sow new seeds
and trim the fruit trees,
but when He arrived bringing dawn and
filling the garden with His brilliant sun,
i winced and said
come back another day.

Lord, I ask you back this day
Come, enter and recultivate this garden,
Come and recultivate me.

Mirjam,
This poem is so beautiful. But I know its also a prayer. I too know what it feels like not to want to accept my calling, nor the gifts that God has given me. Only to ask Him to "come back another day"! Let him "weed" your garden and remove those things that don't belong. For only then will you grow naturally and most importantly Spiritually. For as long as you are "held hostage under their weight" you will surly suffocate and pulled away from is side.  You are truly a blessed writer, poet, and person.  Keep posting!!! Love this one alot.

thanks shirleeah - your words mean alot.
I actually was struggling with honesty at the time - trying to cover up something in my life with lies, and i saw it as a garden which i let satan inhabit, and i kept feeding it and although i hated it at the same time the thought of being honest about everything was even more frightening.  It was difficult to let Jesus begin to teach me that being honest, although hard, was the only way to live.  Praise God for being patient and such a forgiving Father.  Thanks for the encouraging words Shirl -

Mirjam I liked this one also!  It is hard sometimes to come out with that truth. But if we don't then it just eats us alive. I'm glad you decided to let it out.

there is no need.

Seems like we all constantly need to let Him in to clean out the bad stuff growing with in. But, without Him we wouldn't have a garden in the first place so I guess it's His anyway. Great prayer poem.

Did you ever read about a frog who dreamed of being a king, and then became one?

Very well done, mirjam.  We all need to let the gardener in for good, to keep the weeds from coming back...

spot on about it being a constant thing - and keeping Him there for good to keep pruning and weeding out the parts that don't belong. Felix what a cool way of looking at it - i guess it is His garden isn't it, very cool.  Thanks for all your words of encouragement!

Being a fairly new christian myself..I Know what you mean by "come back another day"..
Truly it's a struggle to "live for God"..There's always some "sin" popping up in our lives..that truly makes it discouraging...But i'm learning that if we try as hard as we can, and put our faith in God, In the end we shall not fall...Satan is truly strong...But,,NOT strong enough...
Thank you for the read..you've certainly touched my heart....

Mirjam, it was an enlightment reading this. I love the parable of the weeds in the Bible, and you portray a similarity so well... we are blessed to have the BEST gardener/shepherd in all eternity.
