I’ll need four things to help me grow,
Listen closely so you will know.
Follow the instructions, don’t you stray,
For if you do, I’ll surely slip away.

First plant the seed in moist, rich soil.
Providing a foundation that’s strong
And won’t spoil.
This seed is the seed of truth, and the
Truth is His word.
Study it, read upon it, and practice what you heard.
For the anointed one will come,
And tend to your needs.
Until you sprout your first leaf,
No longer a seed.

Next shower me with rays of light,
Allowing the sun to shine so bright.
Upon the leaf that has now grown,
Into a tree of it’s very own.
My branches have extended,
But yet they still are not strong.
So remove those things from around me
That don’t belong.

Now teach me to pray and say the words
That I should.
For a strong prayer life will definitely do me good.
As I pray, everyday, my roots have grown deep
Into the ground.
The wind blows and I hear voice that is so profound.
Saying, “Open your eyes, take a look and see,
In just a short time you have become a strong tree.
Your roots have grown deep, your trunk thick and long,
Your branches now have leaves.
Your limbs long and strong.”

Now I see, what it means to be a tree.
Standing tall and upright.
With my head held high, and my arms stretched wide,
Ready to do battle, ready to fight.
Though the storms may come, and the wind may blow.
I may bend, but I won’t break.
This I know.

Though my leaves may fall from time to time,
I know that it’s just God’s way of reminding me
Of another season gone by.
I know He will replace each and every leaf that fell.
Because of those leaves, I now have deliverance.
I now have a story to tell.

So, if you water me I will grow.
Give me a chance to prove and show.
All that awaits, hidden deep inside.
Waiting to blossom until His Son arrives.

So very beautiful.  I especially love the way you expose the pruning of the Lord.  So many people don't understand the necessity of God to strip us of that which shouldn't be.  Excellent verse.

WELCOME SHIRL!   I do like this very much.  We are grafted into the tree, and pruned also. Very well thought out!  Hope to see more!

well what an awesome poem my friend.  I love your metaphor of a tree, and as i read it it made me think of several things. The roots of the tree made me think of Jeremiah 17:7
and its funny i actually wrote that scripture out for someone today - the whole maturity thing - we start off as babies but we grow as He teaches us to be strong.  I also thought when you wrote "with my arms stretched wide" of Jesus stretched out on the cross - a tree.  That is so cool how you've interwoven those images - whether on purpose or not it's well done! ANd i loved the idea that when our leaves fall it's just a passing of seasons - that God is preparing to take us into something new - how cool.  You are very talented and I hope to read more of your work in here - God bless you!

Mirjam - This message is especially for you.  I glad that my poem touched you and you were really able to relate what I was trying to write what my heart was feeling.  So often, we forget that our Lord has given us all the strength to go through any test and trials.  And as we grow in Him, No weapon formed against us shall prosper. May God watch over you continually!

thanks shirleeah - i feel mighty special getting my own message!  Yeah Praise God for the strength He gives us eh? If you ever get hold of a copy of this book called VANYA, read it - it is a testimony of a Russian soldier who is Christian and forbidden to be so - He is bold for Christ and wins many lives for the Kingdom of God just by speaking out his faith, and God is so faithful and performs mighty miracles within the army base.  It was so encouraging because God does give us strength through any trial if we just trust in Him, even as Vanya was being persecuted God gave Him to strength to endure.  It's a great read. You are such an encouraging person - you will touch many people with your poetry i just know it!  God bless you!

Did you ever read about a frog who dreamed of being a king, and then became one?

Mirjam - I hope this message finds you well. It is true that God gives a strength. I am going to take you up on reading "Vanya". It sounds truly inspirational.  One of my prayers is that I can continually be a vessel for the Lord. And that he will use me and the gift of writing He's blessed me with to reach out and encourage, comfort, and bring joy to others. Thanks for the lovely, wonderful words.
