How much love does it take to carry a cross?
How much love does it take to die for the ones who kill you?
How much love does it take to ask the Father to forgive them,
even as they spit upon your face? And gamble with your clothes?
How much love does it take?
How much patience is needed to love a sinful man?
How much patience is needed to endure the agony of deceit?
How much patience is needed to wait upon your prodigal son,
even as he lies with prostitutes, and curses your name?
How much patience is needed?
How much pain must be endured, for the sins of the world?
How much pain must be endured to protect the ones who love you?
How much pain must be endured to hang upon the cross,
even while they mock you, and water pours out your side?
How much pain must be endured?
*****************

Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
John 1:29

It was powerfully written….. shows how hard it is trying to be like Jesus, because of how despised he was... And how hard it is to love your enemies... And how hard it is to forgive... And how hard it is to be righteous on this earth.

God's beyond compare. This is beautiful.

Great questions here...But as they say..."I asked Jesus how much do you love me?  This much He said then he spread out His arms and died."  Too bad we all can't be (even just a little) more 'Christ-like'... Amen for God's love, that He loves us ebough to do ALL that He can for us!  I like this poem greatly, for I have myself asked theses questions millions of times!

Unanswerable questions, so well done in your piece.  I say "unanswerable" cause I doubt we can possibly truly comprehend such awesome, unconditioal love, yet we enjoy and depend on it.

smiles Samsonheart..

Echo, when you said "I asked Jesus how much do you love me?  This much He said then he spread out His arms and died." -- I got a hanging picture of that scene one Christmas and it's been on the wall in my room for awhile. At first it looked like a cruel joke.  But as I type this, I think that this poem samsonheart clarifies that picture and would go along very well with the hanging picture of that scene.

Darn, the beginning alone brought tears to my eyes. Very powerful words you use here! Powerful questions! Brings to mind a song by Wes King...The Love of Christ...won't go into it all, but this I will...
How wide and how long and how high, how deep is the love of Christ.
How wide? The width of two arms outstretched on a tree.
How long? The length of the road to Calvary.
How high? The height of the crown on a cruel cross.
How deep? The depth of the pain is the cost~All for you, all for me~All for love did He bleed~All to set us free~My prayer for you is that you would know.

Thank you and I am printing this one out!

i gave that exact picture of Jesus on the cross that arthur hawkwing has to a friend, as soon as i read this poem samsonheart, i thought of it.  Wow i love how you structured this, and repeated How much, because it's true, we'll never quite comprehend how much he does love us.  Absolutely loved this poem, and am also printing it out - another to go on my wall.
God bless you!

Thank you for your comments mirjam, I'm flattered that you and Whtdove found it worth printing out.  I would love to see the picture you are talking about, I'll have to keep my eyes open next time I'm at the bookstore.
