Oh Lord I know you can see
that the way you'd like me to be
is not easy, or even achieved fast,
but to do so I must put away my past.
I will place it on the cross
and count not my loss
for I am now debt free
and have gained a new me.

A large price for me you did pay,
Lord Jesus show me the way
lead me back to you when I fall astray
and encourage me to ceaselessly pray
keeping my eyes fixed on you
and submitting everything i do
to Jesus, Lord, my saviour Lamb and King
who shelters me behind his wing.

Protect me from the evil one
let him not get an inch of fun
for only you are worthy -
against his temptations i must be sturdy.
Remind me daily to say goodbye
to that disease of the tongue - the lie,
to speak only the truth,
for nothing but your word is sooth.

And also Lord do away with pride
for from you i simply cannot hide.
Let my lips praise you alone
in a thanksgiving and grateful tone
(this life on earth is just a loan)
so that profanity, lust and the old man die
and no more will i so sorrowfully sigh
but rather exalt your name on high
and by your victory every demon defy.

Oh Lord teach me to repent
so that under these sins I won't be bent
but instead your laws obey
and in your presence desire to stay.
Cleanse me of evil and make me clean
so that your glory to the world may be seen.

Grant me strength to endure the race,
and set before me a steady pace
that I may for holiness continually thirst -
inside me the joy of salvation always burst
and the splendour of your love
decend upon me like a dove.

I want to love you more and more
over your world help me each day to pre
now your guidance i will seek
please Lord teach me to be meek,
correct me when I wrong,
and stay with me forever long
as I sing to your my love this song.

The line "I will place it on the cross" immediately brought my mind to this thing that we did in our youth group at church. I made a cross out of wood about 5 feet tall, and had everyone confess their sins ona piece of paper, fold it up and nail it on the cross...it went along with a whole message, but it went over very well!

I would like to raise my voice and sing with you!

What an embracing and touching poetic prayer you are offering up here...so many right concerns and holy aspirations--thank you for allowing us to share in your heavenward thoughts. It is an uplift to us all, i'm sure.
