The dark, dismal sky belched billious clouds
of navy and black, that hovered over
the crucifixion cross marked "King of Jews."
Howling winds screeched gossipy gasps
sulking-howling again as if bowing curtain calls.

Demonic dice were cast, drunken men drooled,
Mary wept softly, rising above the chanting of the calloused crowd
echoes the auctioneer's plea,
"What will you give for the Man of Calvary?"
Silence fell as certain as a curtain ends a Shakespearian tragedy,
but no one bid for the Auctioneer's Son.

Piercing the silence came the cry
"Why hast Thou forsaken me?"
...And, then in submission from the pale parched lips,
"I commend my spirit to thee."

Centuries passed...and one somber wintry evening
I heard the Auctioneer's plea again
"One thousand once...one thousand twice..."
Penniless and penitent I raised my hand
and cried out, "Love, Love!"
And His Son was given to me.

You have such a wonderful way of spinning your narrative poems, that I feel like I'm there observing, and learning, cringing & feeling that crying need of that deep Son myself. In my book, you've done very well my friend. Thank you

wow i love the way you use your words Echo -
they spiral around each other and you do this
all within a narrative that paints a picture so vivid that you feel as though you are actually there experiencing the scene yourself! Definitely made me think of the
day i asked the Lord into my life - very
touching. Mirjam.

Denise and Mirjam...Thank you, I like trying to be able to show others the exact feelings I felt, or to make people think about that exact moment in their life, or anything. It is far better than just reading a poem and not getting anything from it, I think! Though I have written MANY like that! I am glad ya'all enjoyed this one though, this particular poem means a lot to me! Thank you

Sunshine, since my recent decision to not write any more poems, I brought this one back up for your challenge because it gives a picture of what it was like when I first accepted Christ.

I sit and ponder and lift thoughts from my consciousness, spilling them forth to here, raising my lit cigarette and blowing smoke in the face of reality.

Wow, a wonderful poem. I love the auction metaphor, powerful images as well...

The dark, dismal sky belched billious clouds
of navy and black, that hovered over
the crucifixion cross marked "King of Jews."
Howling winds screeched gossipy gasps
sulking-howling again as if bowing curtain calls.
Demonic dice were cast, drunken men drooled,
Mary wept softly, rising above the chanting of the calloused crowd
echoes the auctioneer's plea,
"What will you give for the Man of Calvary?"
Silence fell as certain as a curtain ends a Shakespearian tragedy,
but no one bid for the Auctioneer's Son.
